Westside Neighborhood School, an independent DK – 8th grade school located in the Playa Vista area, seeks an innovative Director of Educational Technology & Innovation who is both an inspiring visionary as well as manager. This person will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of highly effective technology systems that support both teaching and learning, as well as the business operations of the school. Specific responsibilities include providing hands-on support for network infrastructure, all physical and virtual servers, backup systems, network security, video systems, emergency broadcast systems, and integration ands support of our Blackbaud database and CMS systems. The Director of Educational Technology & Innovation will partner with the faculty and administrative staff to clarify the school’s technology vision and to implement a technology plan that meets the current and future needs of a dynamic 21st-century learning environment, which includes experience in designing a STEM/Maker space.

The Director of Educational Technology & Innovation must work well with faculty and administrative staff to resolve technical issues and provide leadership in all aspects of technology. The Director of Technology is a member of the Senior Administrative team, and will support student, administration and faculty technology use, assist in budget forecasts and provide guidance in emerging technologies and their relevance to the operation of the school. Candidates for this position should have strong communication skills and be highly effective at organizing and delivering technology professional development for faculty and staff.

The scope of the Director of Educational Technology & Innovation position is broad and includes, but is not limited to, the following:
• Overseeing the 1:1 iPad program, laptop carts, Mac Lab, Robotics program, including network management, and the repair of all electronic equipment, computers, and peripherals;
• Reviewing and negotiating preferred vendor relationships including laptop procurement and maintenance, software licensing, installation, upgrade continuity, and managing E-Rate applications;
• Managing non-educational platforms and databases for constituencies including the admissions, development, communications and finance departments;
• Collaborating with the Educational Technology Coordinator to develop and oversee tech budgets and manage those technological functions that support the academic program, along with facilitating seamless, efficient implementation of educational platforms at a technical level;
• Ensuring the continual functioning of mission critical operations including file servers, email systems, internet service, wireless network, and website service, physical plant systems, security systems, VOIP phone systems, and emergency broadcast/communication systems and others*;
• Monitoring and managing network resources to maintain efficiency and security;
• Holding primary responsibility for the back-up, security and stability of the school’s systems and data in response to accidental outage or damage, natural disasters, malicious attack, and other threats;
• Overseeing hardware distribution, inventory database of school’s hardware/software and maintenance cycles;
• Supervising, training, assisting, guiding and evaluating all subordinate staff; assigning technology staff priorities and activities; and monitoring office work flow.

Qualifications include a B.A. degree (Masters is preferred), and certification in technology, experience in a fast-paced environment, experience with Mac OS X, Mac OS X Server, Apple software, Blackbaud database, Whipple Hill CMS, Google Apps for education, LAN (content filters and firewalls), WLAN (Aruba), and managing E-Rate applications. Experience in a school environment is preferable. Compensation is commensurate with experience.
