Meet the new leader

Lianna Kali

Lianna Kali was born and raised on Ohlone Land in the Bay Area and currently calls San Francisco home. Her journey in the world of education started at a young age, working for Camp Galileo while in high school. She realized the potential of joyful approaches to learning and decided that someday her career could take that path.

After pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Humanities from Menlo College, her work has focused on the world of informal education. Most significantly, she has spent the last 11 years with the Exploratorium on the Tinkering Studio team, developing and leading programs that combine art, science, technology, and community through making tangible objects and artifacts.  In 2018 Lianna completed a Master’s Degree in International and Multicultural Education from the University of San Francisco. The program focuses on critical pedagogies and examines the role of power and privilege in educational systems. She is excited to bring this commitment to educational equity to her role of Director of Instructional Innovation, with a focus on the intersections of making and social justice in the ChangeMaker Lab and thoughtful technology integration across K-8.

Beyond her passion for education, Lianna loves to read (particularly Afrofuturist science fiction), cook meals for large groups, and tend to her many houseplants.
