2018-19 Job Opening: Academic Technologist
St. Luke’s School, a secular, college-preparatory day school serving grades 5 through 12 in New Canaan, Connecticut, seeks a talented Academic Technologist to join its dynamic, enterprising Technology Department. The St. Luke’s IT team includes 1 Network Specialist, 1 Systems Support Specialist, 1 A/V Specialist, and 2 Academic Technologists. We promote a thoughtful collaborative environment, focusing not only on the development of solutions for today’s challenges, but also on the cultivation of innovative ideas for the future. This is a full-time, 12-month position.
All students at St. Luke’s are provided with school-owned technology. For the 2018-2019 school year, this will include a Chromebook for grades 5-7 and a Macbook Air for grades 8-12. The IT Department is responsible for the deployment, maintenance, and ongoing use of these devices, as well as the St. Luke’s wireless network, A/V equipment, database management, and student books (including e-books). Although a point person on the team has been designated for each, we work together to meet these responsibilities.
The primary role of the Academic Technologist is to collaborate with faculty to effectively integrate use of technology, enhancing teaching and learning in the classroom. Our team adopts a teacher-driven model: to learn our teachers’ goals and pedagogy, raise awareness of exciting opportunities to enhance the student experience, and provide the training and support needed to succeed. The addition of a third Academic Technologist will help us to further inspire students and teachers to leverage the power of technology in their teaching and learning.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Partner with teachers to design, deliver, and support technology based projects to augment curriculum.
- Based on skills, assume responsibility for the management of St. Luke’s Student Information System or administration of the SLS book purchase program.
- Train/assist teachers to address planned as well as ad hoc technology needs. Results to include relevant, quality training materials that can be reused in the future.
- Assist teachers with the functionality of interactive projectors and with developing the skills to leverage interactivity in the classroom.
- Help support non-academic departments with technological needs.
- Assume project management responsibilities for special projects.
