Academic Technology Teacher
The Lower School at North Broward Preparatory is an Apple Distinguished Program. The Academic Technology Teacher plays a key role in teaching, facilitating, and supporting the use of 21st century technology in teaching and learning. The successful candidate will be a team player and a nurturing, flexible person who understands the developmental and cognitive needs of children. He/she should be able to communicate effectively with students, parents and peers as well as be able to employ a variety of instructional techniques to engage young learners. He/she will also ensure that the infusion of technology is pedagogically appropriate and aligns with the academic philosophy of North Broward. The position includes direct instruction for students in grades 1 – 5 as well as support and training to help teachers integrate technology in their classrooms. The position reports to the Director of Educational and Information Technology. In addition, he or she will have a commitment to our school’s mission and an interest in being involved in our community through participation in school-wide committees and activities.
Role and Responsibilities:
Identify and communicate best practices for applying teaching and learning theories and instructional technologies to curriculum design. Recommend effective and creative uses of technology to enhance instruction and create new learning environments.
Teach Lower School technology classes per the NBPS technology curriculum, including introductory computer programming and robotics
Assist faculty in the design and development of engaging, interactive and instructionally-sound materials that address various learning styles and are accessible to all students.
Plan and coordinate training programs with technology training staff.
Assess the purpose, effort, and effect of using technology from the pedagogical perspective. (SAMR model)
Relate successfully to faculty members with diverse backgrounds and instructional responsibilities.
Work with 5th grade students in producing lower school news broadcast.
Understand current instructional technologies and learn new ones quickly.
Communicate well verbally and orally; possess good facilitation skills, excellent presentation skills and engaging presentation style.
Work independently, as well as part of a team understanding the shared vision.
Work in a changing environment and manage multiple priorities.
Assist with IT Department special projects as needed.
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Educational and Information Technology.
Job Requirements:
BS and prefer a Masters in a related field. Patience, flexibility and collaborative nature are very important.
Classroom teaching experience, especially in introductory programming such as Scratch or Logo.
Expertise with Mac OS, Google Apps, and iPads preferred.
Experience with Learning Management Systems, robotics and editing audio, video, and photos are a plus.
Qualified candidates will possess intellectual curiosity, strong communication skills, commitment to ongoing professional development, and have a history of using, advocating for, and supporting teachers in innovative technology applications in a proactive manner.
