Position Summary: The Accessible Learning Technology Coordinator (ALTC) works with a dedicated team of professional and student staff to provide notetaking (including notetaking technologies), furniture accommodations, alternative formats (document conversion), and media captioning. This position runs the daily operations of notetaking and furniture accommodations, assists with the conversion of materials into alternative formats, and works with other areas to ensure equal access for students with disabilities.

This position is essential to working with a wide variety of students with disabilities to understand how they can use accommodations and related technology successfully as part of their educational experience at UW-Madison.

The ALTC assists in developing/presenting training materials and consults with students, faculty, and staff on accommodations, the accessibility of learning/instructional materials, classroom hardware and software options and adaptive technology. They also support ongoing workflow and quality improvement efforts related to the provision of accommodations within their portfolio.

Degree and Area of Specialization: Bachelor's degree in adaptive/assistive technology, education, educational/instructional technology or design, rehabilitation psychology, curriculum & instruction, library and information sciences, disability-related field, or bachelor's degree coupled with related experience.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience: 

REQUIRED:

  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: alternative format production, assistive/adaptive/access technology, accommodation/accessibility services, instructional design, digital/web accessibility, universal design, education, or related field.

  • Experience working with individuals with a range of disabilities.

PREFERRED:

  • Strong background in learning disabilities, mental health, ADHD, and/or chronic health.

  • Experience working with digital accessibility, physical accessibility, and/or universal design principles in instruction/technology.

  • Knowledge of federal and state laws pertaining to disability access and compliance.

  • Intermediate knowledge of Windows, Mac, Android and iOS operating systems.

  • One or more years of experience effective managing a detailed work flow in a team environment.
