JOB SUMMARY

The Accommodations & Assistive Technology Specialist exists to support the office of Disability Resources to ensure equal access for students, guests, and visitors with disabilities. The person in this position coordinates the accommodations offered through Disability Resources, promotes its services to the campus and community, and provides ongoing training to students and the broader campus community regarding the ADAAA and assistive technology. The overall purpose of this job is to assist in providing quality services to students with disabilities to allow them equal access to all university programs and activities.

 

Disability Resources is the unit in the university responsible for coordinating and leading compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act regarding accommodations for students, guests, and visitors with disabilities. The department is responsible for providing all classroom, residence hall, and event accommodations.   The university is required by federal legislation, the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA) and Section 504, to provide services specifically outlined as accommodations for students with disabilities.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Alternate testing coordination

  • Management of the exam accommodation process which involves monitoring the online exam registration forms submitted by students, corresponding with students as needed regarding exam logistics, contacting instructors to retrieve exams for students and corresponding with them about logistics, and printing exams

Assistive Technology

  • Consult with students about technology options that support their learning

  • Keep current with executive functioning and learning related apps

  • Serve as liaison to campus community regarding assistive and accessible technologies

  • Manage web licenses for Sonocent Audio Notetaker, text to speech software, and other assistive software

Management of the process for alternate format texts

  • Contact publishers, retrieve booklists from the UST bookstore site, track books ordered and received, track books to be purchased and scanned

  • Manage student textbook receipts, manage web licenses (Learning Ally), etc. 

  • Coordinate braille texts, handouts, and exams

Student employment supervision

  • Hire, train and supervise 8 – 10 student employees (equivalent to two full time student positions)

  • Responsible for training students on exam proctoring, scribing and reading exams, test security and integrity practices, scanning textbooks into alternative formats, and confidentiality

Administrative, training, and program responsibilities

  • Manage Accommodate software for accommodations logistics

  • Serve as a liaison with the Information Technology Services department

  • Assist with disability awareness campus activities, attend campus information fairs, etc.

  • Collaborate with Center for Student Achievement partners to showcase technology that supports student success

  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or the equivalent

  • Four years of administrative experience 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Experience in assistive technology and disability resources

  • Experience in higher education

  • Strong knowledge of federal disability laws including the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act

  • Familiarity with student information systems similar to Oracle Developer (BANNER), MS Word, MS Excel, MS Office and Outlook

  • Knowledge of assistive technology
