Overview

The Spence School seeks an Apple Device Administrator to join the IT Department. This position reports to the Director of IT and oversees the technical implementation and ongoing administration of Spence’s Apple devices. This includes overseeing the configuration, deployment, and maintenance of roughly 700 macOS and 550 iOS devices in support of both our student 1-1 device program and Spence employee device program. The ideal candidate should possess a deep understanding of macOS and iOS systems and a solid grasp of various deployment and configuration management solutions (Jamf, Munki, etc.). This position will also oversee Spence’s Apple Self-Servicing Account leveraging Apple’s GSX for hardware repairs. The Apple Device Administrator will also work with a variety of stakeholders to ensure that our Apple devices are positioned to technologically support an interwoven experience with teaching, learning and operational aspects of daily life at Spence. 
 

Technical Responsibilities

  • Oversight of Spence’s Apple 1-1 device program in the Lower and Middle School divisions

  • Deploy and manage Apple devices, primarily MacBooks (700) and iPads (550)

  • Create and maintain Jamf / Munki policies that provide for software, its configuration, and any necessary settings updates to all macOS and iOS devices

  • Oversee Spence’s Apple SSA account, coordinating both on- and off-site repairs through Apple’s GSX

  • Provide cross-divisional and all-campus, in-person and remote end-user technical support for all networked devices (e.g., laptops, printers and copiers, VoIP phones)

  • Migrate user data between devices as needed during hardware refresh periods 

  • Maintain inventory of all computer hardware, mobile devices, and any relevant peripherals

  • Create documentation and knowledge articles on best practices both internally for IT Department and entire Spence community

Preferred Qualifications and Certifications

  • Minimum three years of relevant hands-on experience in a technical role 

  • Advanced knowledge of Apple mac-, iPad-, i- and tvOS devices and their internals

  • Solid grasp of macOS/iOS automation and configuration management tools: Apple School Manager and device deployment (DEP, Configurator), Jamf Pro, Munki, AutoPkg, Bash and Python-based scripting

  • Jamf certifications (CCT or CCA), Apple certifications (ACSP or ACMT), recent CompTIA certifications (A+, Network+), networking certifications (ACSA or ACSP), ITIL and change management certifications, or any relevant IT certifications

  • Knowledge of macOS and OS X file systems applied to data migration and recovery

  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals (vLANs, DHCP, IPv4, DNS)

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Windows and PC hardware, Linux distros (centOS, Ubuntu), and virtualization (VMware)

  • Familiarity with legacy tools and (monolithic) imaging techniques
