Organization's Summary Statement:
This position is responsible for providing comprehensive database management and administration for operational and project support of enterprise level cross-campus services for the University of Maryland. This includes monitoring, analysis, database performance tuning, security and application tools. Configuring and maintaining databases including monitoring of database health, database performance, availability, deployment, backup and recovery, and security. Analyzing and guiding customers SQL queries and scripts. Perform scheduled database maintenance and support for application releases. Other duties as assigned.

The Application Database Administrator (DBA) is a member of Enterprise Data Services (EDS) in the Division of Information Technology (DIT) at the University of Maryland, College Park. The position has responsibility for providing comprehensive database optimization and administration for enterprise level, cross-campus services.

The position is responsible for:
Configuring and maintaining Multiple RDBMS  Postgres, Oracle databases (AWS RDS) , Redshift data warehouse platform, MSSQL (Azure) including monitoring of database health, database performance, availability, deployment, backup and recovery, security (audit), tuning vector data ,  Optimization and SQL tuning.

Analyzing and guiding customers with SQL, PostgreSQL Queries for the application requirements which includes writing of SQl ,PL/SQl and PostgreSQL

Providing 24×7 support for critical production systems.

Performing scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours.

Configuring and maintaining the Denodo data or virtualization tool

Independently analyzing, solving, and correcting issues on multiple tasks in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end and prompt customer service.

Essential Duties:
Database Design and Administration:
Actively participates in all aspects of the database administration such as design, implementation, delivery and administrative responsibility for monitoring and maintenance 24×7, multi  databases (RDBMS) running on AWS RDS (oracle , postgres, Redshift). Participates in integration with applications and Warehouse (Redshift) in cloud services (AWS, Azure). Performs monitoring, troubleshooting and planning for achieving operational availability of the database systems and quality service assurance. Provides documentation to other team members. Participates in after-hours scheduled and emergency support. Performs  User and Role Management , Data Source Connection Management , Cache management Query Optimization and Performance Tuning for Denodo Data virtualization tool

Database Maintenance and Optimization:
Continuously works on Backup and Recovery of the Database system adhering to the OLA (Office of Legal Audit) policy. Implement backup setup and restore procedures in AWS Oracle RDS. Capacity management and troubleshoot performance issues related to SQl queries and  CPU, Disk I/O, memory, user connections and applications data sets. Apply patches and perform database upgrades as per customer requirement. Actively participates in performance tuning (Database tuning and SQL tuning) in AWS RDS  databases

Database Deployment and Customer Support:
Constantly implements Database deployment changes for all the environments through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems.  Implement Denodo setup for Data access. Performs Migration of Data across environments for application support. Continuously works toward improving various services provided to campus customers and partners by performing technical troubleshooting and giving consultation to development teams. Determines root cause and documents production service failures and outages, and provides suggestions on problem remediation. Implements permanent solutions to repetitive issues and automates data administration tasks

Database Security and Compliance:
Participate in implementation of database standards to ensure audit compliance by implementing policies and procedures that adhere to the University to meet State and University System of Maryland audit requirements. Work with the infrastructure/ Security team on a regular basis for Security and Risk assessment of the Database systems

Physical Demands:
Sedentary work. Employee will need to be able to sit for long periods of time to work on a computer, as well as travel occasionally to meet with clients and customers on and off campus. Position also requires being on call to provide some outside of business hours support. This position is considered an essential position and may be required to work at the normal work location or an alternative location during a major catastrophic event, weather emergency, or other operational emergencies to help maintain continuity of University services.
