Application Developer Manager
Job Purpose: Lead in consultations with users to identify requirements for software applications in support of processes and business needs. Supervise the development, testing, documentation and implementation of those applications or other technical solutions and the maintenance of existing applications. Responsible for setting employee goals, assessing employee performance, providing feedback, and making pay recommendations.
Major Responsibilities:
- Lead in analyzing user needs and associated level of technical design requirements.
- Supervise development, testing and implementation of technical solutions.
- Analyze, modify and maintain existing applications.
- Oversee technical, operational and user related documentation in support of applications.
- Provide technical support to functional users, determining and solving systems and programming issues.
- Coordinate communications with vendors when appropriate for problem resolution.
- Participate in conducting informal and formal end user training.
- Make project assignments, oversee staff efforts and provide feedback.
- Monitor project scheduling and all project tracking control systems.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Work Experience: Six to eight years job related experience

- Skills: This job requires supervisory skills as well as skill in communications and project management. Additionally required is advanced knowledge and skills in application of query language, web development tools, procedural development tools, relational databases, structured programming and the software development life cycle.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Preferred Education: N/A
- Preferred Work Experience: Experience with full-stack Drupal site development including both back-end and front-end; Experience with development in LAMP environments especially PHP and relational databases; Experience with modern software engineering practices including DevOps (dev/stg/prod) architectures and source code control (e.g. git); Experience with WordPress and other CMS Drupal site management (drush CLI, APIs, Acquia cloud) Drupal theming, module selection, and module development, for Drupal 7 and 8

- Preferred Skills: Knowledge of application security methodologies and service-oriented architecture
Additional Information: This position is expected to manage a team that implements and maintains websites for units in the College of Sciences, including primary unit sites as well as research related sites and special projects; coordinate closely with Communications team to achieve strategic goals; develop strategic directions for future web services which are scalable and secure.

Department Description
The College of Sciences is comprised of seven schools - Biological Sciences, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, Mathematics, Physics and Psychology, and the Center for Education Integrating Science, Mathematics, and Computing (CEISMC).
The College of Sciences' newly formed Academic and Research Computing Services (ARCS) organization is a shared services model to support the IT needs of faculty and staff across the College.
