Assistant to the Dean for Technology and Communications

Assumes responsibility for the simulation and audio-visual needs in the College of Nursing & Health Professions buildings including, but not limited to, recommendations related to new software and hardware, scheduling of simulation and testing activities, and trouble shooting technology used in instruction. Collaborates with faculty and administration in advancing the use of technology in instruction.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Adheres to all University and Departmental Policies

• Troubleshoots problems with all technology associated with the use of audio visual (AV) in the teaching/learning environment.  That includes software and hardware associated with simulation, testing, and marketing of the College of Nursing & Health Professions and its programs.

• Installs and maintains network systems and related peripheral equipment, and performs network administration and security functions ensuring system integrity and security.

• Collaborates with faculty and administrators relating to the scheduling of simulation and testing. Establishes the protocols and policies associated with AV and simulation.

• Serves as the resource for AV and simulation technology used in instruction. This includes purchasing, identifying needs, and evaluation of technology use. 

• Assists in the training of staff and faculty relating to the use of AV and simulation technology. Supervises graduate student and/or work-study in the Clinical Simulation area.

• Recommends updates and proposes new simulation, audiovisual and other software technology for consideration.

• Assists in programming simulators and running simulation equipment during simulations.

• Coordinates with the Assistant to the Dean for Finance & Administration on the inventory of clinical simulation lab supplies and assists with scheduling and managing work flow in the lab. Assists with data entry for various record keeping.

• Builds working relationships with IT professionals and outside vendors.

• Determines the simulation and programs AV needs and requirements as requested by lead faculty involving audio video systems (recording video capture, basic hardware functionality and processing), video post production editing, and integrating video into course management systems.

• Updates college website as needed to facilitate communication of accurate information to internal and external communities of interest. 

• Collaborates with University Communications and iTech as needed.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

2-year degree or certificate or equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications  

Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Technology

Healthcare related experience in simulation

Certified Healthcare Simulation Operation Specialist
