Job Description Summary |
The Assistant Director of Information Technology plans, organizes, and, manages IT Department resources and staff in technical, support, special projects, and administrative activities. This position provides management, administrative and technical leadership over the University Learning Management System and acts as the major point of contact to the vendor. The Assistant Director of Information Technology works closely and in conjunction with the Director of Information Technology on strategic initiatives and strategic alliances with other Oregon institutions and is responsible for budget planning, budget implementation, operations, and staff supervision for all assigned IT Department subunits. The Assistant Director of Information Technology is responsible for the overall planning, organizing, and execution of all IT Help Desk and Copy Center functions, staff, customer service, and quality. Directing operations to meet customer requirements as well as provide effective support and maintenance of existing software, hardware, and the development of new technical solutions are key responsibilities of the incumbent. Duties include, but are not limited to monitoring of and maintaining uptime of critical systems to satisfy customer expectations, the full spectrum of supervising staff (hire, direct, review, discipline), ensuring functional campus communications, routine and special project planning and management in support of critical services, profit/loss responsibility of campus Copy Center, and campus-wide training and problem resolution support for these critical systems. The Assistant Director of Information Technology is responsible for achieving all assigned goals for planning, organizing, and managing staff in technical programming, technical systems support, special projects, and administrative activities. This position collaborates and works with other members of the department as well as staff across the University, focusing on multiple systems and customer groups, to ensure the delivery of fully functional hosted systems including; networking; purchasing; inventory; telecommunications; data center operations; deployment of desktop hardware; end user support; project management; and service desk. This position directly contributes to fiscal and administrative decision-making and performs advanced technical programming and networking work as required. This is a specialized technical position with significant supervisory and operations responsibilities that reports directly to the Director of Information Technology. The incumbent plays a key role in the senior leadership team of the department. |

Responsibilities |
Assistant Director of Information Technology The Assistant Director of Information Technology will lead and coordinate all campus communications along with any training needed to the campus community. These activities will include but are not limited to: Communication of outages, IT services offered, maintenance schedules, or other communications. Will effectively and efficiently coordinate training efforts in collaboration with IT as well as functional staff to provide continuous training in technology to the campus community. Will effectively and efficiently monitor customer service as it relates to training, IT support staff and IT help desk and adjust services as required to better serve the campus community. The Assistant Director of Information Technology will provide leadership and work collaboratively with network, audio-visual, training, support, and other IT personnel to build financial projections, budgets and purchasing recommendations for the Assistant Director of Information Technology’s direct reports and departments. The Assistant Director of Information Technology will have final authority in building his/her budget model for all departments and personnel who directly report to or are under the direct authority of the same. The Assistant Director of Information Technology will at all times be responsible for ensuring resources are closely aligned with the university mission, theme, and goals. The Assistant Director of Information Technology is expected to be involved with campus engagement at all levels on the main university campus as well as regional centers throughout the state. This includes high-level meetings with executive staff, faculty and the campus community at large. The Assistant Director of Information Technology will be encouraged to participate in committees, teams and in an advisory role to the campus at large. These efforts will focus on informing the campus community of IT services available as well as coordinating follow up meetings with support staff to ensure effective translation of functional need to technical solution. The Assistant Director of Information Technology is responsible for organizing and supervising the help desk and copy center projects using project management software and ticketing system in their daily operations to ensure ongoing service to the university. Analyzes complex business needs presented by the user community and/or clients and recommends technical solutions. Ensures the consistency and maintainability of existing applications by creating, maintaining, and enforcing standards/procedures for implementing technical solutions through advanced technical programming and networking as required. Directs operations in executing production tasks according to a documented schedule that meets or exceeds customer expectations. Directs and prioritizes the workload of help desk and copy center personnel. Approves all business requirements prior to the technical solution. Participates on all hardware and software evaluations for the entire campus and maintains vendor contracts. Directs education programs for her/his staff. Provide departmental representation at university meetings and committee meetings. This includes high-level meetings with executive staff, faculty and the campus community at large. Learning Management System (LMS) Provide support to all students, faculty, and staff with regards to the university’s LMS. Recommend educational technologies to support and facilitate student learning. Act as the liaison to the LMS vendor on behalf of the university; to include other related services like course evaluations. Provide analytical reports based on LMS usage. Create scripts to pass information between the LMS and other services. |
