Emma Willard School believes tomorrow’s female leaders need sharply honed critical thinking skills. In the increasingly information rich world, we must inspire our girls to question everything and empower them with the skills to seek out and be critical consumers of information. Emma seeks a dynamic professional to partner with the Director of Research to provide information literacy instruction, serve as the tech integrationist, and nurture a lifetime love of learning in our girls.

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic to engage in all areas of librarianship. The assistant director of research will assist in the management of the library’s print and digital collection, visit classes to integrate and support the research program, assist with the creation of digital research guides, manage the library’s student and parent volunteer program, and engage in a number of library outreach programs. Day-to-day activities will include: cataloging, circulation, shelving, interlibrary loan management, organizing course reserve materials, and the creation of promotional materials. Additionally, this person will assist technology staff by assisting teachers and students with technology needs in the classroom. This position will help to keep a supply of technology accessories (Mac adapters, cameras, etc.), manage the LMS (Schoology), and assist in technology training for students and new employees at the start of each school year.

A master’s degree in library and information science from an American Library Association accredited institution is preferred, but a degree in instructional technology or other library-related field would be considered. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply. Experience in independent schools is desirable. A passion for working with young adults, a good sense of humor, strong organizational and interpersonal skills, a love of reading, the ability to juggle multiple-projects, and genuine excitement for the development of an innovative library and research program is a must.

Emma Willard School is a nationally recognized, academically rigorous, preparatory boarding and day high school for girls. We offer competitive compensation and an attractive benefits package in a stimulating and dynamic academic community. Emma is an equal opportunity employer.
