The Assistive Technology (AT) Manager assists students, faculty and staff with the implementation and use of assistive technologies to meet their academic needs. The incumbent recommends, evaluates, installs and maintains assistive technology on campus. The AT Manager is primarily responsible for determining reasonable accommodations for students with sensory (hearing and vision), and upper-body mobility impairments. The incumbent trains individual students with disabilities in the use of appropriate AT and how to adapt their learning strategies to make optimal use of technology. The AT Manager oversees captioning, alternative text, note-taking and interpreting services for students with disabilities. This position advises campus partners regarding the accessibility of websites, hardware, and software systems. The incumbent assists in the development of policies and procedures related to accessibility and assistive technology.

 

Work Environment

  • This position reports to the Director, Disability Support
  • Also reporting to the Director are the Associate Director, Disability Support; Assistant Director, Disability Support; and Coordinator, Learning Services Program
  • The AT Manager will supervise an Accommodations Coordinator

  • The AT Manager works in an environment of teamwork but also must be able to work independently, ensuring that the university is in compliance with relevant disability laws.

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • 35-Exempt

 

Required Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree related to technology, higher education, or teaching
  • Four years of related professional experience, preferably in a postsecondary setting
  • Hands-on usability expertise in various assistive software technologies 
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot AT-related software and specialized AT-related computer hardware
  • Demonstrated knowledge in various assistive hardware
  • Knowledge of how assistive technology is useful for people with and without disabilities in an educational setting 
  • Ability to work well independently and as a member of a team
  • Requires high degree of initiative and ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Additionally, this position requires well-developed written and oral communication and interpersonal skills; analytical, project management, organizational and problem-solving ability
