Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, the Associate Director or Director* of Networks, Systems and Infrastructure leads a team of five full-time staff. The director is a member of the IT leadership team along with the CIO, the director of administrative applications, and the associate director of the technology service center. Springfield College is a member of the Cooperating Colleges of Greater Springfield (CCGS), and shares knowledge as well as a fiber loop and access to the internet.

FUNCTIONS

Leadership. The director is responsible for ensuring that the cybersecurity, server, storage, systems and network infrastructure meets the current and future needs of the college.

Management. The director leads a staff of five: two systems/network administrators, two network/telephony technicians, and one position focused on cable TV and videoconferencing.

Budget and Planning. The college needs a multi-year plan for infrastructure upgrades and maintenance. This will be an early priority.

Campus and Wide-Area Network Administration. The campus network serves every building and most outdoor spaces. The wide-area network includes remote campuses (CA, MN, VT, TX, FL, DE, MA) and locations near to but not contiguous with the Springfield campus, including College-owned residences.

Systems Administration. College business processes are supported by virtual and physical servers on campus, as well as systems hosted in the cloud.

Backup and Recovery Planning/Testing/Execution. Robust disaster recovery plans and procedures need to be developed to ensure the continued operation of the college in the event of an emergency. These plans must be tested occasionally to ensure that they will work properly when needed.

Project Management. The director leads relevant projects and is a collaborative partner on others. Project management skills of setting priorities, setting timelines, communicating progress and responsibilities and ensuring quality work and timely completion are essential.

Cybersecurity. Working with the CIO, the director and the entire Networks, Systems and Infrastructure team are responsible for making College services as secure as possible as well as monitoring for breaches and researching issues as they occur.

 

Requirements

  • Final title/compensation will be dependent on the successful candidate's education, skills and work experience. For an Associate Director, a BA/BS degree with 3-5 years experience is required, but an additional 5 years' experience can substitute for the degree. For a Director, the finalist must have a BA/BS, advanced degree preferred, and 8-10 years of experience in computing services.

Other requirements:

  • Experience planning and managing multiple projects of varying complexities,

  • Experience with CISCO technologies,

  • Supervisory experience coaching and developing staff and managing contractors,

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, problem solving and analytical skills, and attention to detail.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with budget planning and management

  • Experience working in higher education 

  • Experience working within the constructs of shared governance
