At Stanford, almost all undergraduate students and half of the graduate students live in campus residences. The Associate Director, Student Technology provides program and campus leadership for student technology services and manages staff who provide residential and central computing consulting services and teaching programs. S/he also oversees the residential network experience including network support for over 15,000 students (which includes over 11,000 residential students with over 30,000 devices) by providing network consultation and hardware and software support.

This position conducts day-to-day management of student technology within in the Residential Computing Consultant program at the Office of the Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning. It provides technical and managerial guidance to direct report(s) utilizing technical knowledge and expertise.

CORE DUTIES*:

Oversee the network experience including supervision of staff/student staff responsible for network support in residential buildings.

Lead strategic direction on program management of technology in the Stanford student residences, including overseeing the Senior Program Manager, to evaluate and set priorities; coordinate business, technical, and educational activities for direct report(s).

Communicate operational objectives and assignments and delegate to staff.

Oversee and indirectly supervise 100+ student resident computing consultants, including recruiting, training, and developing. Provides direction and determines policies on hiring, training and managing student staff. May hire and manage temporary or casual staff

Serve as the initial managerial escalation point for problems from clients and other staff that require collaborating with other groups on campus. Monitor and report on team performance metrics, providing guidance, initiating or envisioning new systems when appropriate, and ensuring that existing systems meet service and operational needs. Maintain existing systems support network registration, ticket tracking (ZenDesk).

Assess and evaluate Student Technology program and services through measures such as surveys, focus groups, pilots, and quantitative computer usage and networking data.

Communicate and implement policies, procedures, best practices, recommendations and guidelines in compliance with established university policy and federal and state regulations. Ensures that Student Technology programs and services are aligned with the university’s academic mission, undergraduate teaching programs and requirements, and key partners including Student Affairs, Residential Education, Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, and University IT, and independently represents the Residential Computing Consultant and Peer Technology Specialist programs on behalf of VPTL.

Determines priorities for the Student Technology services budget in consultation with the Director of User Experience and Services at VPTL.

Drives the efficiency of the Student Technology teams and programs.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant work experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
