Position Summary

The College of Education at the University of Memphis is seeking a tenure-track associate or assistant professor in our nationally recognized Instructional Design and Technology Program. Scholars with expertise in educational technology, learning analytics, informational visualization, instructional design in formal and informal educational settings, or distance education are encouraged to apply. Individuals who have professional experience and practical expertise are desirable. Successful candidates will have demonstrated excellence in teaching online and mentoring doctoral students in writing and research. The candidate will have a demonstrated track record of peer-reviewed publications. (Position #001963)

Responsibilities
• Teach online, graduate courses in the areas of educational technology and/or instructional design.
• Advise and mentor Master’s and Doctoral students
• Sustain and build upon an existing funded, research agenda
• Secure external funding for research and instructional design projects
• Help support at least one of the following IDT program strands (e.g. educational technology, design and development, or research and scholarship)
• Support a lab and offer open lab hours each week to assist students

About the IDT Program
Our program is recognized nationally for excellence and innovation. Our primary offerings are our Master’s and Doctoral degrees, which are completely online. We have a Certificate in IDT with tracks in Educational Technology, and Design and Development, also completely online.
We have a strong history of partnering with local companies and organizations, and there are many opportunities to engage with the education, business, and professional community. We have advanced lab and work spaces for product development and media production.

Minimum Position Qualifications

Required Qualifications
• A doctoral degree in instructional design, educational technology, or a very closely related field, awarded no later than August 31st, 2018.
Desired Qualifications
• Research expertise in learning analytics, informational visualization, instructional design in formal and informal educational settings, educational technology, or distance education. Eligibility for associate professor requires a strong record of refereed publications presentations and professional service.
• Teaching experience and interest in one or more of the following areas: instructional design/design and development, theories and models related to learning and instruction, implementing instruction in school and non-school settings, action or applied research, program evaluation, or educational technology.
• Experience, commitment, and demonstrated effectiveness in teaching online.
• Identifiable success in graduate student advising and chairing doctoral dissertations.
• Demonstrated success in scholarly publication.
• Identifiable and focused research agenda.
• Identifiable success obtaining external funding and managing funded projects.
