Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), a private, global research university located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is seeking a talented leader with strategic vision, business insight, technical expertise, and superior interpersonal and collaboration skills as its Associate Vice President and Chief Information Officer (CIO).  The CIO will provide vision, leadership, and management to CMU’s central IT organization: Computing Services (CS). Ultimately, the CIO will cooperatively develop a university-wide IT strategy and governance structure for all global campuses.

Reporting directly to the Vice President for Operations, the CIO is CMU’s senior technology official leader leading the technology support of the teaching and research mission of the university. The CIO oversees a staff of 224 and an annual operating budget of $38 million. The CIO provides strategic leadership, oversight, and management of CS and develops the vision for the organization’s service to CMU’s mission.

Candidates will possess a solid understanding of and commitment to the educational and research mission of CMU. S/he will work with a diverse and multi-disciplinary group of constituencies on all levels internal and external to CMU. Demonstrated depth of experience with IT strategic planning, budgeting, and people management by delivering efficient and effective technology solutions within a world-renowned institution is key.  A master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Information Technology Management, Business Administration, Management or related field is desired. Relevant experience may be substituted for degree requirements.
