DESCRIPTION:

Full-time, 12 month, para-professional position reporting to the Director of Technology Services. Current contractual salary is $43,811 year.
 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Technical Assistant assists in providing the necessary technical support provided to the College by OIT.  As such, the Technical Assistant is responsible for installation and configuration of audio-visual equipment, the installation and maintenance of hardware and software components, documentation of installed technology and its functionality, researching and testing new audio-visual and PC technologies, and training of end users in appropriate use of technology within the College.
 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

  1. Installs, maintains, troubleshoots and repairs computers, and audio-visual equipment including but not limited to control systems, projectors, video switchers, and other AV related hardware.

  2. Installs and troubleshoots operating system and application software within the campus systems.

  3. Installs wiring and network drops throughout all College facilities and sites.

  4. Responds to technology problems identified by end users and works to correct problems either independently or with the assistance of vendors.

  5. Creates and maintains documentation. Provides training of end users in the use of technology, as needed.

  6. Sets up and operates audio-visual equipment required for events on and off campus, including weekends and evenings as necessary

  7. Performs other appropriate duties as assigned.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Associate’s degree and two (2) years paid professional work experience.  This experience must include a combination of providing technology support to end users and audio-visual installation and troubleshooting. OR a Bachelor’s degree and one (1) year paid professional work experience.  This experience must include a combination of providing technology support to end users and audio-visual installation and troubleshooting.

 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Paid professional experience working on or with computer hardware and computer operating systems, including both Microsoft and Apple products; paid professional experience with communications wiring systems, IP networking, computer imaging tools, and/or endpoint system management tools; paid professional experience with technology infrastructure used or supported in an educational setting, preferably in higher education; paid professional experience configuring or troubleshooting:  Crestron/Extron control hardware, video-conferencing systems, video projection equipment, audio mixing equipment, audio amplification equipment, HD television equipment, digital signage hardware and software, lecture capture, video streaming, and/or presentation gateways; paid professional experience reading wiring diagrams, equipment schematics, and/or building blueprints.
 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Must be able to operate computer equipment; must be able to work in confined spaces, climb ladders, and lift and move 50 lb. components; must be able to relate with faculty, staff, and administrators of the college; must be able to communicate verbally and in writing; must be able to physically perform the duties of the position to include the ability to work in various locations.
