Audio Visual Technical Specialist
York House School, located in the heart of Vancouver, is one of Canada’s leading independent schools for girls. Founded in 1932 by seven progressive and insightful women, York House provides an exceptional education for approximately 650 girls from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12.
Overview
Under the supervision of the Manager of Technology Integration and Technical Operations, the Audio Visual Technical Specialist will provide first level support in the areas of audio-visual equipment, assist faculty and staff with the set up, operation, maintenance and inventory of technical equipment used in the theatre, recording studio and in the classroom. This individual will also support technical requirements for school events such as setting up podiums, lighting, microphones, speakers and projectors. Supporting the work of the IT team, the Audio Visual Technical Specialist will also perform user help desk functions for trouble shooting both hardware and software related issues with staff, faculty and students. The Audio Visual Technical Specialist also provides support for teleconferences and webinars, as well as maintaining the inventory of audio-visual equipment.
Audio Visual Support Responsibilities
- Coordinate set up and takes down of all audiovisual equipment for school events such as (performances, guest speakers, assemblies, etc.) and other functions requiring audio visual equipment around the campus (e.g. gym, classrooms, foyer, field, Amphitheatre, etc.)
- Maintenance and inventory of theatre equipment, digital studio and roaming audiovisual equipment (ensure equipment is functioning and stored safely)
- Test, diagnose and resolve audio visual equipment issues
- Liaise with external audiovisual equipment service providers as required when in-house and may research for outsource maintenance experts for specialized equipment
- Liaise with outside groups using school theatre or technical facilities
- Coordinate bookings of audiovisual equipment such as video cameras, projectors, audio equipment
- Support for off-campus or after hours school events (e.g. alumnae and advancement events, meetings, sports meets, parent meetings, etc.) with technical requirements such as video, sound, lighting
- Provide technical support for faculty, staff, students and guests for preparing and executing special events, assemblies and lessons
- May involve the training and coordination of recording and streaming select special events (such as sporting events or competitions) using Tricaster Live Studio or other equipment
- Support and train staff and students in the safe and effective use of audiovisual equipment
- Assist in establishing procedures, maintenance schedules, incident reports, maintaining logs
- Manage time to respond to audio visual helpdesk ticket requests in order to resolve issues in a timely mannerLearn to utilize new software and/or equipment as procured
- Perform other duties as assigned
Information Technology Responsibilities
- Assist with installing new hardware as procured, configure to operate with school systems
- Classroom technology support for a Mac computer lab, iPads and mobile MacBook carts
- Support audiovisual set up in classrooms and meeting rooms (Apple TV, Sound Field, projectors, Smart boards, etc.)
- Perform system updates and configuration
- Provide technical support such as trouble shooting hardware and software issues for students and staff
- Perform hardware diagnosis, repair, network resolution and software installation
- Attend regular IT meetings
- Clearly communicate technical solutions in a professional manner and resolve problems in a timely manner
- Keep current and update inventory
- Deliver, tag, set up, and assist in the configuration of end-user desktop hardware, software and peripherals

Qualifications
- Education equivalent to an associate degree in audiovisual technology, information technology, a combination of both, or related fields, such as digital media
- Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) certification an asset
- Two years experience in a similar position
- Demonstrated ability to transport, assemble, maintain and repair equipment used in multimedia production
- Technology troubleshooting skills, as well as the ability to research knowledge bases and actively seek out solutions to technology issues
- Availability to work flexible hours and/or a floating shift
- Strong knowledge of Apple devices and operating systems
- Experience in technical theatre operation and event productions an asset
