Position Description

The University of Louisville is seeking a Chief Information Officer/Chief Technology Strategist responsible for the newly formed Technology Solutions Department. The CIO/CTS will provide effective leadership and direction for all policies, practices, and procedures related to the development, management and regular monitoring of information technology tasks. Oversee the daily activities of the university's Technology Solutions Department staff and manage a team of technology professionals. Serve as a strategic partner alongside various campus leaders, including the Provost, Vice Presidents, and Deans, to develop vision and guide the future direction of technology in support of the university's mission. Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. 

Key responsibilities:

  • Champion the operations division's core ideology of service excellence to which other aspire to deliver exceptional customer service and technology support.

  • Responsible for the articulation of the technology vision and the development and implementation of the long- and short-term technology plans.

  • In conjunction with colleagues both across the COO organization and the entire university, develop a structure and strategy in support of the project management and technology-related initiatives, contributing to the university's overall project portfolio.

  • and maintain high-impact relationships with internal and external clients, seeking to serve and build value-added partnerships for advancement in supporting technology.

  • Collaborate with academic, administrative and health affairs constituents to develop an overall synergistic technology roadmap and ensure successful implementation of the technology plan.

  • Design and recommend an effective, high-performing organizational structure, which best aligns Technology Solutions to support the core business technologies and strategic vision of the university. 

  • Lead capacity planning, information security, IT service level management, configuration management, business application management, technology architecture, voice and data communications, and data center operations as well as disaster recovery, planning and testing, with the primary goal to maintain stable and reliable systems.

  • Improve and support existing enterprise systems, while providing direction on all technology-related issues in support of the university's strategic plan, and offer insight into key issues and recommended solutions.

  • Oversee university IT shared governance groups established to advise and direct the strategic use of technology within the university, i.e., Strategic Technology Executive Committee (STEC) and ATC (Academic Technology Committee).

  • Work with Technology Solutions units, STEC, and ATC to create shared technology goals and consistency in service, tool sets, status reporting, budgeting, customer request fulfillment, and support. 

  • Proactively oversee budget and financial status to allow Technology Solutions to adapt to budgetary shifts and new technology initiatives.

  • Represent the technology needs and successes of the university at national and regional conferences to government agencies and legislators, and colleagues across the region.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's Degree or ten years of related experience working in technology focused environment at large organizations. The university offers market competitive salary and benefits. Grade ADM. Information Technology.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Information Technology; Terminal Degree

  • Demonstrated strategic experience within R1: Doctoral Universities & Highest/Higher Education Research Activity

  • Proven record of quality customer service experience.

  • Proven ability to explain complex technical information and make presentations to senior leaders.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement innovative and strategic initiatives.

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work to meet multiple, competing deadlines.

  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities with a keen attention to detail.

  • Effective leadership and management skills.

  • Proven self-starter with the ability to work with minimal direction and oversight.
