Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assess and anticipate technology projects and recommend appropriate action and resources

Consult with administration, vice presidents and department heads to exchange information, present new approaches and to discuss equipment/system changes

Create a cost-benefit analysis as well as supporting a detailed definition of data requirements and departmental workflows

Develop and implement a customer service platform to serve the university in every aspect

Establish and direct the strategic and tactical goals, policies, and procedures for the information technology department
-
Identify user needs and resolve problems.

Manage the day-to-day operations of the information technology department including directing staff, who support administrative computing, networking, user services, telecommunications and other information technology functions

Participate in vendor contract negotiations for all new computer equipment and software purchases for the university

Performance of all other duties as assigned

Propose hardware/software solutions to accomplish the university’s business objectives
Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s Degree required in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and occupational experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired ( Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Management Information Systems, Information Technology or a related field preferred)

Must have a minimum of eight (8) years of experience in managing the planning, delivery and administration of a comprehensive technology plan, infrastructure, systems and services to include data warehousing (IT leadership experience in a higher education environment and in an IT environment requiring 24/7 service availability is preferred)

Must have extensive knowledge of all forms of telecommunications systems, management information systems and information systems design and implementation

Must have knowledge and experience in the integration of distance learning, telecommunications and information systems’ technologies

Experience working with the Ellucian System (Colleague) preferred

Experience overseeing a Disaster Recovery Plan which is tested annually preferred

Demonstrated ability to provide direct leadership using appropriate management skills including project management, budget administration, decision-making, communication and time management

Must have the ability to effectively communicate with groups and/or individuals openly and honestly in verbal, written and electronic form
-
Must have large project management skills and the ability to understand internal customer needs and negotiate for delivery of services

Must have the ability to supervise and evaluate a skilled technical staff within a team leadership, participative environment
-
Demonstrated ability to manage customer relations and motivate personnel to provide quality service
-
Ability to work with all levels of internal and external customers and constituents and to build and maintain effective working relationships that have a positive impact on the university

Proficiency using Microsoft Office suite and presentation graphics software, the internet and email
-
Experience with Blackboard
-
Experience in the development of online programming
