Description

 The Classroom Technology Specialist works closely with the Technical Operations team to provide seamless support for all technology spaces in the Stanford Center for Professional Development (SCPD) at the Office of the Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning (VPTL). The primary responsibilities of the Classroom Technology Specialist are operational and technical support of the instructional technology and video production equipment installed in classrooms for SCPD at VPTL as well as maintenance, both preventative and real-time, of all equipment in those spaces. This position also monitors classroom audio and video to ensure quality control and operates video production equipment to capture academic content when needed.

This position interfaces with faculty, teaching assistants, clients, and other University groups to ensure proper use of classroom technology providing personal and small group tutorials as needed. This position is also responsible for project management of system upgrade projects, including the development of equipment maintenance plans, schedules and budgets in consultation with the Director of Technical Operations.

CORE DUTIES:

  • Diagnose and resolve end-user problems; respond to escalated issues from clients and other support teams; perform triage, provide remote problem resolution when possible, refer problems to associated groups.
  • Research, recommend and implement hardware and software purchases and configurations to meet client needs and ensure compatibility with university systems and architecture.
  • Research, recommend and implement approved standards used throughout the unit and contribute to the development of the client support strategy.
  • Investigate and test new tools, systems, techniques, and software products. 
  • Provide technical guidance and training; may guide other staff. 
  • Work on projects requiring expertise and creativity in analysis and deployment of technology.
  • Set up, operate and troubleshoot on a variety of equipment including but not limited to; laptops, video cameras, video projection, video conferencing, still photography, digitalization, analog and digital audio recording.

Qualifications

 EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Two-year college degree and two or more years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  • A Bachelor's degree and five or more years of relevant experience is preferred but not required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience working with MS Windows and Macintosh operating systems, as well as TCP/IP and networking environments.
  • Experience analyzing and troubleshooting system problems.
  • Experience with live video production for distance learning or event production is preferred
  • Knowledge of video production techniques including shot sequence and composition is preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to provide excellent client service.
  • Ability to apply diagnostic techniques for problem troubleshooting.
  • Ability to apply information technology best practices, including security (this includes information security or physical security, such as asset management) to problem resolution and troubleshooting.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Frequently stand/walk, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, and reach/work above shoulders.
  • Occasionally sit, twist/bend/stoop/squat.
  • Visual acuity including color vision.
  • Occasionally lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 21-40 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Occasionally work on weekends, evenings, holidays, and flexible shifts.
  • May require extended hours and weekends.
  • May have exposure to high voltage electricity, noise > 80dB TWA, confined spaces, and working at heights above 10 feet.
