The Calhoun School, a progressive independent school located on Manhattan's Upper West Side, is seeking a full-time permanent Communications Coordinator starting August 2018.

The successful candidate will help tell the Calhoun story to internal and external audiences through digital and print media. The Communications Coordinator plays an important supporting role on a three-person team that serves the numerous, changing needs of multiple divisions and constituencies within the school.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Create powerful, accurate digital content, including:

    • email/news announcements

    • Social media posts

    • blog posts

    • Short and long-form articles

  • Proofread, edit and fact-check text produced by Communications office

  • Take video and photographs of school happenings

  • Connect with school community to identify potential stories

  • Assist with production of ads and print materials

  • Curate, tag and archive photos & video

  • Manage day-to-day functions of Communications office and provide administrative support

SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be available to attend events throughout the year, including evenings and occasional weekends, to successfully promote the school and its mission

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Minimum two years of professional experience in communications, marketing, journalism or related field (more experience preferred)

  • Bachelor’s degree

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS 

  • Experience with photography

  • Experience with social media

  • Experience and skill with video creation and editing

  • Experience with digital and print production

  • Experience supporting institutional diversity/equity work
