Roane State Community College is inviting applications for qualified candidates for a tenure-track position in Computer Information
Technology with emphasis on cyber defense. The position will serve in support of Roane State’s A.A.S. in Computer Information Technology, which offers concentrations in programming and cyber defense. Courses in this program range from entry level training including A+, Linux+, MS Office, and Net+; continues with OCA java, OCA SQL, and includes training in Security+, Ethical Hacking,
Digital Forensics, and penetration testing. 

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute significantly to this nascent program and is expected to serve as an active liaison with high schools, universities, business and industry or external agencies and assist
with program advisory committees as appropriate

This position is expected to begin August 15, 2018

 

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and teach classes as outlined in the course descriptions and course syllabi, through traditional face-to-face, dual enrollment, two-way video, or online settings. 

  • Teach 15 course hours per semester and schedule a minimum of 15 office hours per week, possibly travelling to off-campus sites, including area high schools.

  • Use of technology to support student learning is expected. 

  • Provide service to the campus through committees, student advising, computer clubs, academic festival, or college fairs. 

  • Engage in ongoing professional development through action-research projects and/or conference participation (if funding permits).

 

Required Qualifications                

  • Minimum of a Master’s of Science degree in computer science or computer engineering from a regionally accredited institution. Candidates with degrees in related fields should explain their qualifications in the cover letter. 

  • Graduation from an institution that is a Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Research or Cyber Defense Research. We will also accept relevant professional experience in cyber defense, which should be explained in detail in the cover letter. 

  • Candidate must have good oral and written communication skills and exhibit flexibility and collegiality.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching experience in cyber defense at community college, including online teaching. 

  • Computer skills including familiarity with online instruction tools such as Desire2Learn, Revel, and MyITLab.

  • Knowledge of the role and purpose of the community college in higher education. 

  • Willingness to work with diverse student populations who represent a wide range of age, ethnicity, and academic ability.
