General Responsibilities:  This is a full-time faculty position reporting directly to the Chair of the Science Department. The essential duties include choosing, maintaining and developing technology curriculum and teaching computer science and coding courses.  This position is also responsible for the coordination of the FVS Makerspace including facilitating training, use, and upkeep of the Makerspace technology.
 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Serve as a member of the Science Department in direct collaboration with the director of technology

  2. Teach two sections of computer science programming/coding

  3. Manage Makerspace and its equipment, including but not limited to video cameras, green screen, 3D-printers, laser cutter, and sewing machine

  4. Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Operating Systems, Windows 10, Mac OSX, iOS, GSuite Apps, and Microsoft Office Suite, digital video equipment (VR, AR a plus)

  5. In collaboration with the Director of Technology and Director of Tech and Global Integration, provide direct support for printer and workstation issues and general software applications to administration, faculty, and students

  6. In collaboration with the Director of Tech and Global Integration, support library services and promote the use of library resources through effective communication

  7. Ability to effectively encourage and instruct patrons in the use of the online card catalog and the FVS website for access to the collection and online databases

Essential Functions:

  • Leads coding/programming classes that complement the science curriculum supports the school’s Makerspace

  • Supports the reference/circulation desk providing patron assistance in person and electronically

  • Provides backup coverage and assistance to the technology department as needed

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Demonstrate ability to effectively communicate in a team environment

  • Detail-oriented, organized, self-motivated, and self-directed

  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects simultaneously and to prioritize tasks

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

  • Demonstrated experience in customer relations; strong people skills with both students and colleagues

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Participate fully in the life of Fountain Valley School

  • Attend Faculty Meetings and in-service sessions

  • Participate in weeknight and weekend duties, as assigned

  • Participate in two seasons of coaching

  • Participate in Interim and the advising program

  • Attend All-School programs

  • Other duties that accompany working at a boarding school

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field

  • Classroom teaching experience, especially at the high school level a plus

  • Experience with CAD and CAM software a plus

Working Conditions

Environment: Office working with high school students

Physical Demands: Able to sit, stand and lift up to 30 lbs for eight hours per day, occasional weekend and/or weeknight obligations

Working Relationships: Students, parents, admission personnel, and other FVS employees
