Computer Science Department Chair

Riverdale Country School is a pre-kindergarten through grade 12 day school in New York City that combines both traditional and innovative practices to provide an excellent Liberal Arts learning environment. Through our guiding principles—developing minds, building character, and creating community—we aim to shape disciplined and flexible individuals who will change global and local communities for the good.

Riverdale is seeking an innovative Computer Science department chair to develop and teach both introductory and advanced computer science classes, including an advanced CS elective in an area of their own expertise (e.g. AI/Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Blockchain, Cryptography, or Data/Databases/Analytics, to name a few). In addition, the Computer Science chair will work with faculty in other departments to explore opportunities for incorporation of computer science into existing curricula. An ideal candidate will be interested in and able to work with either a Middle School or Upper School robotics team, as well. We hope that this candidate would be able to develop after-school co-curricular opportunities in computer science. In keeping with our mission, the ideal candidate is a life-long learner themself and is interested in growing our existing program in such a way that students see technology as a means to better understand and make change not just for themselves but for the world more broadly.

All candidates for Riverdale teaching positions should demonstrate an interest in engaging students in an environment that is both supportive and rigorous and will participate in community activities including advising groups, service opportunities, or other co-curricular activities. Our Middle School and Upper School are located together on the Hill Campus, so candidates who demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching across the divisions are especially attractive.
