Computer Science Teacher / Information & Academic Technology Specialist
Hathaway Brown School has an opening for a full-time 7th-12th Grade Computer Science Teacher / Information & Academic Technology specialist for the 2016-17 academic year.
A successful 7th-12th grade CST / IT-AT candidate will:
● Demonstrate a passion and expertise in the teaching of computer science, robotics, and technology.
● Be an exemplar in the use of technology in the classroom to engage learners.
● Foster the well-being of students in the school by both challenging and supporting them
● Be a team player who works in concert with other teachers, administrators, librarians and the IT department.
● Have a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, Bachelor minimum, Masters preferred.
● Be able to develop and implement an effective and engaging curriculum as a highly competent teacher.
● Understand adolescent development and effective classroom practice.
● Build positive relationships with high school and middle school students.
● Have the ability to draw people in for collaboration and problem solving as a trusted and sought-after colleague.
● Have a high-level of familiarity and competence across cultures and multiple perspectives.
● Have excellent communication skills.
● Demonstrate energy and initiative.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
● Teaching computer science classes for 7th-12th grade students, including Exploring Computer Science, AP Computer Science, Post-AP Computer Science, and an introductory programming class for middle school students. An AP Principles course may be added in future years.
● Mentoring the Fighting Unicorns, Hathaway Brown School’s FIRST robotics team, as the programming advisor.
● Inspiring students to pursue computer science and engineering fields by bringing in guest speakers, demonstrations of technology, and other activities.
● Identifying and updating computer science curriculum changes to be in line with national best practices.
● Participating in ongoing professional development to research and identify best practices related to computer science education, academic technology, and robotics.
● Mentoring a group of 10 or so students in our Upper School mentor program.
Additional Responsibilities Include:
● Providing professional development to faculty and staff to foster technological independence.
● Helping faculty create plans that integrate academic technology in various curricular areas.
● Working with the Chief Information Officer to plan an overall strategy for technology integration for the school.
● Assisting students and faculty with minor technical issues, escalating them as needed.
● Supporting the IT Department with minor project and technical support.
● Advising technology-related student organizations as an adult mentor.
