Summary

The Accessibility Center is seeking a talented individual to fulfill the role of the Coordinator – Assistive Technology Center. In this position, the successful candidate will handle day-to-day operations, implement requests for assistive technology and devices for students with disabilities, and ensure students’ accommodations are individualized and in compliance with disability legislation and university policies. The Coordinator of the Assistive Technology Center will work with students, faculty, and staff to provide technology support services and alternative formats including video capturing, electronic textbooks, Braille, and other needed formats.

Required Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with an associate’s degree and two years professional experience in a related discipline or a combination of education and experience totaling four years.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 
  • Knowledge of federal and state legislation regarding people with disabilities and accommodative practices (i.e. ADA, 504 Legislation).

  • Knowledge of current trends and best practices in assistive technology.

  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities.

  • Skills in organization, maintenance, and effective record and information management.

  • Skills in the use of assistive computer hardware, software programs, and accommodative equipment available for individuals with disabilities in an
    educational setting.

  • Skills in accommodative testing.

  • Skills in supervising employees.

  • Skills in records management, time management, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to follow specific written and verbal instructions. Ability to work with the public and evaluate and solve complex problems.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, staff and students.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of an effective team.

Preferred Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Rehabilitation Services or a related field and 2 years of experience related to the summary of duties.

Knowledge of technology access and usability standards is preferred.

Physical Requirements

Physical ability to perform computer work in an office environment.
