Position Summary

The College of Pharmacy Information Technology Group is seeking a Windows Systems Administrator. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the security, integrity, reliability, performance and efficiency of server, desktop, application and data resources in a heterogeneous environment.

The University of Arizona College of Pharmacy is a top 10 college of pharmacy nationally. We offer a professional PharmD program as well as masters and PhD programs in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Pharmacology and Toxicology. We are home to several Centers of Excellence including the Arizona Poison and Drug Information Center, Health Outcomes, the Medication Management Center and the Southwest Environmental Health Sciences Center. Our college has 50 faculty, 250 staff and 470 students.

The College of Pharmacy Information Technology Group is currently comprised of four individuals supporting all aspects of the College of Pharmacy network. We have over 70 person-years of supporting computing in this college. We support more than 1000 endpoints spread across four physical sites including three buildings on the Tucson campus, and one building in Phoenix.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Administer servers in a heterogeneous Windows/Unix environment.
  • Develop, test, deploy and support applications and services in a production environment.
  • Assist end users with their desktop, laptop and mobile devices.
  • Interface with stakeholders to identify, develop and deploy new technologies.
  • Create and update documentation for both external and internal users.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot hardware and software resources.
  • Assist with ExamSoft, Moodle, and D2L.
  • Assist with classroom technologies and advise instructors.
  • Support systems backup and recovery procedures.
  • Support and troubleshoot endpoint and network security and services.
  • Work with database administrators in support of relational database services.
  • Support web services, e-mail services, VPN services, file and print services, Windows Active Directory services.
  • Create and manage user accounts, group membership and access lists.
  • Perform research and make recommendations on new technologies that may benefit our faculty, staff and students as well as the Information Technology Group.
  • Work with the other members of the Information Technology Group to meet the IT needs of the College.
  • Assume and perform other duties and responsibilities not specifically outlined herein, but which are logically and properly inherent to the position.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities 
  • Experience delivering excellent customer service to users of varying skill levels.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Thorough working knowledge of computer and data security concepts and practices.
  • Experience identifying and resolving issues arising from problematic interactions between clients and servers in a heterogeneous environment.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Six years of progressively responsible system administration and/or
    programming experience including systems analysis, planning and
    development;
    OR
  • Associate’s degree in Management Information Systems, Computer
    Information Technology or related field AND four years of progressively
    responsible system administration and/or programming experience
    including systems analysis, planning and development;
    OR
    *Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.
  • Experience managing network services like DNS, DHCP, VPN and related technologies.
  • Thorough working knowledge of computing equipment, hardware/software installation, and TCP/IP networking.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with VMWare and Hyper-V.
  • Experience managing SAN, NAS or similar network storage devices.
  • Experience supporting endpoint security technologies like authentication, disk encryption, anti-virus software and host-based firewalls.
  • Experience supporting network and identity security technologies such as VLANs, firewalls, encryption and certificates.
  • Experience provisioning, optimizing, protecting and maintaining virtual machines on a server-based virtualization platform.
  • Experience administering e-mail systems including authentication and user management, alias management and list management.
  • Experience administering web services.
  • Experience administering high availability and clustering services.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Windows server and Active Directory administration, including at least 2 years of experience with all aspects of administering multiple servers and services.
