Major Work Characteristics/ Summary of Position

Assists with the development, facilitation and execution of internal staff training at all levels of to enhance the skills and technical competency of University faculty and staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related discipline, plus a minimum of three (3) years of training experience. Must have experience in establishing learning environments that utilize and address numerous learning styles and adult learning techniques. Must have a strong working knowledge of software such as Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access). Must have previous experience developing and teaching technology related programs.

Desired Qualifications

Five (5) or more years of technology training experience in a business or higher education setting, preferably in Information Technology. One (1) year or more of Banner ERP and other technology related training experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains current knowledge of various University systems in preparation to teach/facilitate training programs.

  • Identifies and invites internal and external subject matter experts to provide classes in their area of expertise.

  • Designs and implements programs utilizing the latest learning and development methods and adult learning theory.

  • Prepares professional quality job or training aids, manuals and course outlines and designs course curricula and syllabi.

  • Conducts training sessions with University staff, supervisors and administrators on technology systems.  

  • Presents or facilitates using a variety of instructional techniques and formats such as hands on exercises, simulations, team exercises, group discussions, videos and lectures.

  • Performs research for training and/or special projects

  • Maintains appropriate metrics for evaluation of and reporting on training activity.

  • Attends educational seminars and/or professional development classes in support of assigned duties.

  • Periodically respond to Service Desk calls to understand customer demands and back-up technicians. 

  • Serves on committees related to technology innovation or business process changes and/or other IT projects

  • Investigates issues and their resolution regarding client technologies and their utilization 

  • Maintains confidentiality.


OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs other related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: May supervise student worker or interns.

REPORTS TO: Manager, IT Service Desk and Training

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: In accordance with the Dictionary of Occupational Titles (DOT) this position performs light work. This means it exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally (up to 1/3 of the time), and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently (1/3 to 2/3 of the time), and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
