Data Analyst

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks innovative, energetic, and accomplished candidates for the position of Data Analyst in the Office of Scholarships and Student Aid. This position performs activities associated with supporting campus strategic planning and decision making through development, analysis, presentation, and distribution of institutional related research data, with a focus on student aid and scholarships programs and policies for the Associate Provost and Director of Scholarships and Student Aid. The Data Analyst will report to the Associate Director of Systems and Technology and will work closely with the Associate Provost and Director.
The Data Analyst will be responsible for developing queries and dashboards for regularly reporting on aid for internal and external partners and create and contribute to predictive models of student aid and enrollment. This person will be responsible for independently creating the data architecture, models, and reporting necessary to add to efficient operations and models. The person will be responsible for confirming data integrity and accuracy of data that will inform aid policies as well as represent UNCChapel Hill throughout the country. 
The person in the position will also coordinate with the Associate Director for Systems and Technology to manage PeopleSoft security requests and updates as well as lend skills to the team in efforts to streamline and automate processes wherever possible. In addition, creating or modifying queries for functional staff, as needed.

Master’s and 1-2 years’ experience, or Bachelors and 2-4 years’ experience, or will accept a combination or related education and experience in substitution.

• Demonstrated knowledge and at least two years of experience in quantitative analysis utilizing computer applications such as SAS, Tableau, query tools (e.g., SQL), and relational databases in order to extract data from existing systems and restructure large data sets with high volumes of transactions in a manner that allows for robust analysis and data insight.

• Requires knowledge in data collection and analysis techniques, along with database administration and programming tools; understanding and experience using statistics or social science research techniques; knowledge of computer application tools (for example, query tools and relational databases); knowledge of policies and procedures involved in handling sensitive data (for example, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, or FERPA).

• Knowledge of or ability to, quickly obtain knowledge of the policies, regulations, and practices for awarding financial aid and scholarships.

• Knowledge of the organizational environment of higher education and large research universities to understand client priorities, issues, motivations and constraints.

• Requires ability to present technical information, complex findings, and recommendations in a clear, concise manner both in writing and verbally.

• Prefer recent experience in a large, complex university setting; requires knowledge of, or comfort with, automated and integrated Student Information Systems such as Oracle PeopleSoft or SunGard Banner
