Job Summary

The Data and Reporting Analyst is responsible for collaborating, leading, and ensuring the successful delivery of critical components of Indiana University’s Decision Support Initiative (DSI) for the Bloomington and regional campuses, with an emphasis on student admissions, student records, financial aid and course enrollment data. In addition, the position contributes to the decision support, assessment and research activities of Budgetary Administration & Planning, Office of the Vice Provost for Strategic Initiatives, and the greater Bloomington campus. Develop and manage data processes that support benchmarking and the development of decision support applications. The Business Analyst must be knowledgeable of the Agile process and needs to be comfortable working with a cross-functional, self-organizing team. This individual will be part of the delivery team serving as the Product Owner within the Agile development framework.

The Data and Reporting Analyst will have a highly visible role in communicating and aligning strategy with customers, users, development, IT operations, and management. Must be a team player who relies on close collaboration with the other Agile team members, yet has no formal authority over them. Does not dictate decisions but must be decisive. Acts as an advocate for the innovation process, guiding the project and seeking team consensus in the decision-making process. The position requires patience as team members discuss new solutions from different ideas/perspectives. Incumbent must establish collegial relationships with his/her counterparts in the IT organization, balancing advocacy for his/her area with the need to cooperate in the management of extremely complex interrelated systems.

The Data and Reporting Analyst employs techniques such as user observations, interviews, product roadmaps, personas, user stories, scenarios, design sketches, demos, user tests, metrics, analytics, and release planning.

Required Qualifications

REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree and five years of experience working with enterprise level systems.

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered.

Demonstrated knowledge of unit and/or central office business and administrative processes or relevant higher education experience. Excellent verbal, written and listening skills, ability to interpret complex environments and communicate with stakeholders from both technical and non-technical backgrounds. Demonstrated technical, analytical and independent problem-solving ability in conjunction with effective leadership. Effective time management skills with an ability to deliver consistently high quality work even in the face of changing priorities. Ability to abstract institutionally focused business problems in order to support the development of new and more efficient solutions needed to support electronic document management systems. Strong analytical skills, able to take business requirements and abstract them into models and concepts. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills necessary for working collaboratively and strategically within a diverse environment. Experience in analyzing complex problems and producing concrete, actionable solutions.

Equipment utilized: Computer, software and office equipment related to this position. Experience working with Jira and Confluence software.

Preferred Qualifications

Degree in computer science, computer systems technology, or related analytical field; experience in a higher education environment, especially Indiana University; demonstrable experience in complex data analysis as well as experience in the Agile process with previous Scrum level experience;Knowledge of IU policies regarding the use of data, information systems.
