Database Administrator II
CONTEXT OF JOB:
Under limited direction the Database Administrator II provides application analysis, design and development for core systems managed by Facilities & Auxiliary Services to meet departmental goals. The database administrator II ensures that all systems comply with design specifications and external regulations such as Payment Card Industry (PCI) standards
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides system analysis and database design to modify existing systems and develop new systems.
- Leads business process review meetings to determine and specify data requirements, prototype and document these needs. Writes software customizations to meet client needs by adding functionality to enhance systems.
- Administers database systems including Oracle and MS SQL Server including, security, backup/recovery and performance tuning. Plans disaster recovery and leads recovery operations if needed.
- Designs and writes software interfaces with other systems.
- Designs data models and structures.
- Manages installation of software, patches and upgrades, maintenance and support of critical database resources.
- Tests programs to ensure systems meet functional and customer needs. Resolves any problems found during testing.
- Maintains skills by participating in training programs.
- Designs and writes reports as needed by customers.
- Provides advanced level technical support to customers troubleshooting complex problems including user interfaces, databases and related server hardware and software.
- Provides technical documentation for systems including all implemented customizations and interfaces.
- Works with team members to ensures data security and compliance with internal and external standards such as PCI-DSS.
- Serves as a technical liaison between the Facilities & Auxiliary Services IT group, vendor support, contractors, the University's central IT group, as well as internal and external customers.
- Performs other related job duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree and four years job related experience. An Associate's degree with six years of job-related experience or any combination of education/certification and experience can substitute for required education. Master's degree preferred. A degree in Computer Science is preferred.
- Experience supporting facilities & auxiliary systems such as ID card transaction systems, asset management systems, access control systems and building automation systems in a large university environment preferred.
- Ability to apply current proficiency with database design and administration using Oracle and MS SQL.
- Ability to plan, design, develop implement, test and modify applications and external application interfaces to meet specified needs.
- Proficient programming skills using technologies such as JAVA, C#, .Net/ASP.net, XML, SOA, etc.
- Experience supporting mission critical highly reliable systems.
- Knowledge of best practices regarding installation, configuration and administration of IT systems including security and protection of sensitive data.
- Knowledge of PCI-DSS standards.
- Analytical skills including the ability to reverse-engineer current process to extend functionality and automate the current process.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate complex technical information to audiences of all levels.
- Ability to make independent decisions.
- Ability to interact professionally with various levels of diverse staff.
Additional Requirements:
Ability to lift and move, with or without assistance, computing related equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Valid driver's license and access to private, reliable means of transportation in order to maneuver throughout the Newark, Wilmington and Lewes campus.
