This position is responsible for the development and maintenance of the school’s databases and all integrations with other secondary databases/services to support the daily operations of the school. This position will work closely to support the Admissions, Philanthropy, Business, Communication, and Academic Offices with the use of our Student Information System Database and other integrated databases/services. The Database and Information Systems Manager must have a demonstrated record of adopting new technologies, meeting deadlines, collaborating effectively on a team, and thriving in a fast-paced environment. The Database and Information Systems Manager must be able to work on campus and in person. The ideal candidate will have a strong background working with an enterprise-level database. This position will report to the Director of Technology and will work closely with all departments who use our databases. The ideal candidate will have the ability to work closely with others in the department and across other departments, ensuring that procedures adhere to established school policies and enterprise best practices. The candidate must be a self-motivated individual who is committed to efficiency, quality, and fine attention to detail in their work. Strong customer service skills while working in a hectic environment with a heightened (but calm) sense of urgency and resolve are a must. The candidate is also expected to be sensitive to the various needs and abilities of users. Responsibilities: Serve as the lead database manager for a school-side information system, ensuring data integrity across all modules in the database and integrated secondary databases/services (including, but not limited to Ravenna, Radius, Naviance, PowerSchool Learning, Google Workspace for Education, FinalSite, Senior Systems, SchoolDoc, Segue, etc.) Enter, migrate, import, and export data including building custom reporting and queries across multiple data systems for various departments and divisions Manage, create, and maintain user accounts and permissions for data access and security within various integrated systems Monitor the primary database and integrated secondary databases/services to identify, resolve, and document data quality/integrity issues to ensure reliability across all systems Develop, document, and maintain procedures, workflows, processes, and complex functions to ensure consistency of data integrity, formatting, and style across databases Direct the work of others within the scope of the school information system to ensure the preservation and integrity of data Evaluate, advise, and advocate for best practices to facilitate automation, synchronization, and data workflow while seeking and implementing data process improvements across the enterprise Provide support and training guidance to all colleagues who use the databases both formally and informally Work with other administrative departments, school operations teams, and colleagues as needed to increase efficiency and ensure data integrity Stay at the forefront of best practices and procedures for database management to ensure the appropriate level of leadership and support Be familiar with data protection law compliance and ensure compliance with regards to data handling across departments Additional tasks, projects, and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Technology The ideal Database and Information Systems Manager candidate will demonstrate: Requirements: An innovative mindset that is solutions driven History of solving problems with modern and innovative solutions Ability to effectively identify and properly document problems and their resolutions Impeccable communications skills Ability to create and manage API integrations with the database is not mandatory but is a plus The ability to continually maintain and exceed industry standards Physical Requirements and Work Environment: Minimum of three years of progressively increasing responsibility in data management role with a strong preference for experience in an educational environment A degree in MIS, Computer Science, or a related technical field, or comparable experience Experience maintaining and managing relational databases (Senior Systems, Veracross, and/or Blackbaud) Experience generating reports, queries, and exports from databases Excellent verbal and written communications skills Basic knowledge of accounting preferred Experience using FinalSite, Google Workspace, and Microsoft Office Suite, preferred While performing the above duties, you will be expected to: Sit, turn, bend, reach, walk, talk, hear, and interact with faculty, staff, and others in person and on the telephone Work in a highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts Work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time Occasionally lift up to 30 lbs Employment at St. Mary’s Episcopal School is contingent upon successful completion of a background, fingerprint, and reference check.
