Job Function

To provide primary administrative and academic direction, leadership, and control for specific curriculum and programs within the Engineering & Advanced Technology (EAT) area of the Learning Unit, in a manner consistent with established College policies and procedures. Provides leadership in planning, implementing, and evaluating initiatives under the direction of the Vice President, and in cooperation with other College units and staff. Serves as a leadership link with employers, feeder schools, and other post secondary institutions.

Job Responsibilities
  • Responsible for building a strong, cohesive team to facilitate solid career preparation programs.
  • Responsible for credit and noncredit programming in EAT. 

  • Plans, initiates, implements, monitors, evaluates, revises, and represents a broad range of courses, programs, curriculum, and delivery systems.  

  • Develops and coordinates support services to help students achieve declared educational goals, obtain employment, and advance in their careers.  

  • Develops and recommends criteria for student assessment and academic placement which leads to success in the classroom, in the job market, and in the workplace.  

  • Promotes and facilitates coordination of curriculum across the unit; the assessment of student academic achievement, and the review of academic programs/departments.

  • Coordinates programming with the career services office, student services and non-credit programming.  

  • Recommend EAT staffing needs, be responsible for EAT administrative, faculty and staff recruitment, hiring, evaluation and on-going development and support.

  • Support the College commitments to student diversity and global education by ensuring that EAT programs reflect international and multicultural perspectives.

  • Provide support for instructional faculty by facilitating specific professional development opportunities

  • Provides oversight for special programs and projects as directed.

  • Recommends and evaluates staff; provides for in-service training leading to the improvement of teaching, learning, and student services.  

  • Establishes objective methods and resources for short and long range planning; serves on various College committees; and provides oversight for special programs and projects as directed.

  • Functions as the management link between assigned administrators and faculty to the Vice President.

  • Maintains records and submits reports as required.

  • Represents the College, campus and division to the public and various employee groups.

  • Prepares and submits an annual budget for the division and administers the approved budget in accordance with institutional policy and procedure.  

  • Assists in maintenance and security of facilities, supplies and equipment.

  • Assists in the planning and development of educational specifications for physical facilities.

  • Identifies, develops and implements plans for obtaining additional sources of revenue

  • Administers grant proposals and grants.

  • Implements and administers employee group master agreements.

  • Maintain standards related to institutional accreditation and, where applicable, specialized programmatic accreditation.

  • Meet expectations established by the State of Michigan as applicable to occupational/career and technical education.  

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Provost/Vice President of the Learning Unit

SUPERVISION GIVEN: Directs and coordinates the operation of the departments within Engineering & Advanced Technology with the assistance of associate deans, directors, assistants, and other staff assigned. Establishes standards of performance, checks progress of projects and programs, and assists the associate deans in carrying out their assignments.

Education

Master’s Degree appropriate to the programs supervised from an accredited institution is required. Earned Doctorate preferred. Transcripts must be submitted with the application. Preliminary Qualifications 

Five (5) years experience in administration or management; demonstrated effective writing and oral communication skills; initiative, leadership, responsiveness, enthusiasm, innovation, contribution, and excellence in performance and teamwork highly desirable. Teaching and/or technical training experience preferred.

Physical Demands

Occasional long and irregular hours necessitated by special projects, compliance with deadlines, length of the institutional day and week, and committee service. Some travel involved for liaison and professional activities.

Salary  $93,253 - $126,124 (2018/19 Salary Range)
