Lamar University (LU) invites nominations and applications for the position of dean of library and associate vice provost for information technology. Reporting to the provost and vice president for academic affairs, the dean will provide strategic direction and vision for the library, working with talented and accomplished librarians, staff, faculty, and students to meet the university's educational mission and ambitious goals for growth.

The Mary and John Gray Library of Lamar University facilitates access to scholarly information in all forms, within the overall framework of the university's stated mission. To this end, the library is committed to the following initiatives: teaching information literacy skills that promote academic success and continuous learning; developing appropriate collections and making them discoverable; designing and delivering efficient services within a collegial educational environment; and, providing leadership in the creation of campus information policy.

Lamar University (LU) is a public, Carnegie Doctoral Research University, located in Southeast Texas. With more than 15,000 students, LU is among the fastest growing Texas colleges and universities. The University offers more than 100 programs of study leading to bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees. The 270-acre campus in Beaumont is about 90 miles east of Houston and about 25 miles west of Louisiana. The university has been nationally recognized for the quality of its core curriculum and the diversity of its student body. Compared to other universities near Houston, Lamar University’s small class sizes and low student-to-faculty ratio allow students to build meaningful relationships with expert faculty who truly care about their success.

The dean of library and associate vice provost for information technology will provide a clear vision of the evolving role of the library and how they directly support the strategic initiatives and intellectual core of the university.

Candidates must have a Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution or international equivalent, or a doctoral degree, and a distinguished record of accomplishment in higher education, private sector, professional practice, or public service commensurate with the expectations for appointment as a university librarian.

Screening of candidates will begin immediately. For best consideration, applications should be provided by November 25, 2017.  The selected candidate must be able to start no later than July 1, 2018. An application should include a letter describing relevant experience and interest in the position; a curriculum vitae/resume; and names, titles, and contact information for five references.  Submission of materials as PDF or Word document attachments is strongly encouraged. Individuals wishing to place names in nomination should electronically submit a letter of nomination to include the name, position, address and telephone number of the nominee.
