Position Overview:

The Upper School at UCC is inviting applications for a dynamic and adaptable MYP Design Teacher with programing experience. The role of the Design teacher within the Middle Years Programme assumes knowledge of the philosophy and practices of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme. The successful candidate should be an adaptable and inspiring educator, with the ability to deliver a coherent, balanced, integrated, inquiry-based Programme. The successful candidate will have a diverse range of qualities, competencies and experience with Design and Computer Science. A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with teachers and students is essential, as is a willingness to participate in the full co-curricular program of the school, including coaching.

Key Responsibilities:

Academic

  • Responsible for teaching MYP Design with a primary focus in the coding stream;

  • Plan, teach and develop curriculum within the standards and practices of the MYP;

  • Committed to department collaboration and working effectively within a dynamic team of teachers and Technical Support staff;

  • Make effective use of resources and ensure improved standards of learning, high performance and achievement for all students;

  • Be creative and innovative;

  • Provide professional expertise, high quality teaching and learning within a rapidly evolving area of Design and Computer Programming;

  • Be an outstanding teacher, learner, motivator and communicator, with excellent interpersonal skills;

Advising

  • Being an effective link between the school and parents on both academic and non- academic matters by carrying out the duties of an Adviser.

  • Meeting with advisees during twice weekly advising sessions and delivering the advising curriculum;

  • Writing advising comments on reports and communicate formally and informally with parents of advisees in person, e-mail and via telephone;

  • Provide direction and support for advisees. 

Co-Curricular

  • Lead with skill, passion and enthusiasm, identified activities in our vast co-curricular program, including athletics (coaching expertise in basketball, soccer, hockey, volleyball, and baseball), the arts, clubs and publications.

​​​​​​​Key Experience, Knowledge and Competencies:

  • Bachelor of Computer Science or Engineering;

  • Bachelor of Education;

  • Experience with Python and Java is an asset;

  • Experience with HTML, CSS and Javascript is an asset;

  • Experience with hardware development is an asset;

  • Experience with Adobe Suite software is an asset;

  • Ability to engage with and learn new software/languages to help support boys learning;

  • Experience with the International Baccalaureate’s Middle Years Program an asset;

  • Demonstrated a passion for computer science and the ability to instill passion in students;

  • TOK experience an asset;

  • Understanding of and commitment to boys;

  • Ability to recognize individual learning styles and the characteristics of learners;

  • Ability to display creativity and innovation both in and out of the classroom;

  • Demonstrated ability and desire to coach sports and / or lead co-curricular activities;

  • Invest in personal development and strive to grow professionally;

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to develop strong professional relationships with

    students, colleagues, administration and parents;

  • Collaborative team member;

  • Exemplary communication and problem solving skills;

  • Exhibit a high level of commitment, perseverance, initiative, adaptability and problem

    solving skills;
