Design & Innovation Teacher
The Harley School seeks a full-time Design and Innovation teacher for the 2016-17 school year. Using the resources of our expansive workshop and project room on the ground floor of our new Commons facility (http://sites.harleyschool.org/thecommons/), this teacher’s responsibilities will include teaching courses in grades 7-12 that feature project-based learning; collaborating with other teachers on such projects; and facilitating students’ hands-on learning.
Building on existing programs that incorporate design-thinking philosophy and technology, our new teacher will have the opportunity to promote, conceptualize, and coordinate design and innovation projects throughout the curriculum and school, Nursery to 12th grade. In particular, he or she will be responsible for managing the workshop and project spaces, supporting professional development of colleagues, and supervising independent student projects.
Requirements:
Knowledge and experience with design thinking and makerspace principles.
Skill with using (and teaching the use of) power tools, electronics, computer software, and related technologies (including arduinos, laser cutter, 3D printer, shopbot, robotics, etc.)
Appreciation for working collaboratively, taking risks, managing a flexible schedule, and balancing short- and long-term projects.
At least two years of full-time teaching experience
To apply, submit cover letter and resume to jobs-us@harleyschool.org and include Design & Innovation in the subject line. Harley welcomes candidates who may add to our diversity.
