Position Overview
Founded in 1950, Chandler School is a private, independent, nondenominational day school in Pasadena, CA enrolling 450 students in kindergarten through fifth grade. The mission of Chandler School is to provide each student with the most academically challenging education in a nurturing, balanced and diverse environment. Chandler School is accredited by WASC and a member of NAIS and CAIS.
The Director of Academic Technology promotes the use of technology and innovative methods to support student achievement in the classroom. The director provides leadership, staff development, and instructional support to all teachers. In addition, the director helps teachers match teaching methods to curriculum standards. The director provides instructional staff with the essential support needed to effectively use the learning management system and other productivity tools.
Duties and Responsibilities
Collaboration/Training

Collaborates with teachers of all grades (K-8) in creating effective technology lessons, and supports the teachers as they implement these lessons in their classrooms.

Promotes and models instructional practices and the role of technology in pedagogy.

Provides assistance and training to instructional staff in the integration of technology to support student achievement. This includes planning and implementing job-embedded professional development and workshops for individuals, small groups, and large groups.

Collaborates in the evaluation, selection and implementation of instructional technology materials and software.

Gathers and disseminates information (e.g., policies, professional development opportunities) relevant to instructional technology.

Works with the tech department to increase communication, collaboration and support between groups.

Leads faculty LMS training for both divisions.

Create and teach middle school electives agreed upon with the middle school director.
Initiatives/Research

Collaborates with division directors, Director of Information Technology, the Director of the Innovation Lab, and staff to ensure infrastructure and tools are available to carry out school innovation initiatives.

Assists with technology training as part of collaborative school initiatives and supports the technology standards for teachers and students.

Conducts research about advancements in innovative pedagogy to inform teaching and learning.

Participates in ongoing professional development related to job responsibilities and maintaining expertise in the field.

Investigates new programs and software pertaining to classroom management, curriculum, and student productivity.
Curriculum

Works with curriculum staff to develop and implement enhanced technology.

Works with teachers to plan, teach, and evaluate student learning which may include finding new resources and finding solutions to individual tasks.

Implements and oversees the scope and sequence for digital citizenship and technology skills.

Assists teachers with implementing lessons related to technology and digital citizenship.

Supports the use of digital portfolios
Community Support

Conducts staff development and supports community wide initiatives, including parent education.

Supports and assists parents by attending back to school night and new parent orientation.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution

Relevant teaching experience
