Director of Campus Technology and Media Services
Library, Information, and Technology Services (LITS) at Mount Holyoke College seeks a diverse pool of applicants for the key leadership position of Director of Campus Technology and Media Services (CTMS).
Position Summary
Library, Information, and Technology Services (LITS) is committed to providing integrated library, information, and technology services and resources that enable a diverse community of students, faculty, and staff to creatively and productively advance the College’s academic, administrative, and co-curricular goals.
Reporting to the Chief Information Officer and Executive Director of LITS, the Director of CTMS will join a collaborative leadership team. The team is committed to building on each other’s insight, experience, and expertise from across library, information, and technology areas to ensure LITS is responsive to the community, aligned with the College’s mission and goals, and continually seeking ways to learn and improve. The Director will be excited by the promise of new technologies and the benefits they can provide, and experienced both in anticipating the challenges of implementing technology in ways that are sustainable and in advancing the College’s goals.
Toward these ends the Director leads, manages, and supports a dynamic team of 14 full-time employees and over fifty student employees. The team empowers the campus to use its investment in hardware and software to the fullest potential: to allow faculty, staff, and students to do their best work creating an exceptionally diverse, inclusive, and productive learning community. The Director is also responsible for managing several large and complex operational and reserve budgets and developing related policies and multi-year plans.
The Director will contribute to College governance through membership in task forces and committees, such as the College’s director-level Operations and Policy Council (OPC), Compliance Committee, the Information Security Team, and the Technology Access Committee for campus accessibility. The Director of CTMS works collaboratively and proactively across the College, the Five Colleges, and with regional and national organizations like NERCOMP and CLAC to provide leadership in assessing complex systems, situations, practices, and options; plan strategically, proactively, and thoughtfully; develop and achieve goals; translate long-term strategies into day-to-day operations; and keep abreast of new trends, tools, opportunities, and campus needs.
Campus Technology and Media Services (CTMS)
CTMS is responsible for the full life-cycle of endpoint, collaboration, AV, and office productivity software and hardware technology, from projection and planning, to purchasing and deployment, training, support, and disposal of technology in financially and environmentally sustainable ways. CTMS is currently organized in three areas:

Asset Management, including desktop systems administration, field support, procurement, and desktop software;

Community Technical Support, including the help desk, information commons, peer workshops, student computer diagnostic center, and lab operations;

Media Services, including academic videography services, classroom and non-classroom AV services, and event support.
LITS as a whole, and the CTMS team in particular, have become known for continually improving the responsiveness, effectiveness, and efficiency of their services. Recent projects include implementing the Samanage incident tracking and inventory system, including development of an IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) based service catalog now used across LITS. CTMS has been instrumental in advancing the College’s information security efforts, including awareness training and events, data classification, and incident response management. CTMS also collaborates closely on projects including classroom redesigns, as well as larger AV design and installation such as in the recent $50 million construction of the Community Center and Dining Commons, and renovation of Blanchard Hall.
Primary Position Responsibilities

Inspire, lead, and support the CTMS team to continue to become an ever more proactive, effective, efficient, and innovative partner to the College community in using the library, information, and technology to support their evolving goals

Share leadership of LITS’s organizational development to identify innovative and sustainable services, practices, and resources to ensure excellence in advancing the college’s mission and goals.

Work to create a welcoming, accessible, and user-centered environment in which a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff can thrive

Develop and effectively manage project, operational, and multi-year reserve budgets in support of the College’s goals and priorities

Lead and contribute to College-wide information security, privacy, accessibility, and sustainability efforts, and work to integrate them throughout the technology and support life-cycle; ensure compliance with professional and technology standards, license and regulatory requirements, and MHC standards, policies, and procedures

Strengthen communication with the campus community through active promotion of the rich resources available; be an effective conduit for questions, needs, and innovative ideas from across the campus
Required education and experience

While a master's degree in a field related to the position is preferred, we welcome otherwise qualified candidates with credentials and experience that support the requirements of the position

Significant record of successful, progressively responsible leadership, management, planning, and supervision of diverse groups of staff, and student staff in a mission-driven organization

Demonstrated, current, innovative, and successful experiences with a broad range of audio visual and computer technologies, software, and technology support

Demonstrated experience developing institutional policies and procedures and implementing them to address security, privacy, accessibility, or other compliance requirements

Experience managing project, operational, and multi-year budgets

Exceptional oral and written communication skills

Strong organizational, goal-setting, and problem-solving skills with the ability to implement and assess solutions

Experience effectively leading projects and committees with diverse groups of faculty, students, administrators, staff, and others
Desirable experience

Experience collaborating across campuses or consortia.

Experience implementing continual improvement practices associated with IT service management principles such as the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL)

Experience with one or more of the specific technologies currently in use at Mount Holyoke (i.e. Adobe Creative Cloud, GSuite, Moodle, MS Office, SPSS, WordPress, Zoom, etc.)

Experience with one or more of the tools or their equivalents used by the CTMS team and LITS to support the campus (Active Directory, Apple School Manager, Jamf, KACE, Labstats, Samanage, SharePoint, etc.)

Experience developing a departmental communications strategy
