The Director of Communications, and Development (DCD) will lead communication and fundraising initiatives that promote the school’s vision and messaging. The DCD is responsible for promoting and developing our voice and brand and creating, managing and implementing Berkwood Hedge School’s strategic communications program. The primary objective of the Director is to create and communicate a compelling story about Berkwood Hedge School.

The DCD will report to the Head of School and work closely with the senior administrative team and will lead, plan, direct and implement overall strategies for all communications, marketing, fundraising.

Communications
We are seeking a strategic, thoughtful leader, experienced writer, problem solver and team member. S/he will lead communications, creating a diverse series of communications for varied audiences. While collaborating across constituencies, the Director will set strategy for messaging, branding and marketing; lead the formulation of strategic communications plans that advance the School and to ensure that messaging is consistent, compelling, timely, and appropriately targeted.

Development
Lead annual fund and annual spring gala and provide leadership and guidance in cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and the strengthening of alumni and parent relations both as part of the fundraising program and in order to reinforce ties with the school’s various constituencies and the local community.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director of Communications and Development will be expected to:

  • Develop fundraising, marketing, and communications strategies and plans that advance and drive increased engagement with prospective and current constituencies.

  • Collaborate with Head of School, administrators, and teachers in articulating their purpose and ongoing work.

  • Participate actively in the work and success of the leadership team and the life of the School, and provide support for school events and administrative work.

  • Provide day-to-day support to colleagues, parents, and students.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Outstanding communication, community relations and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment

  • Desire to strengthen and grow the marketing, communication, and fundraising efforts of a well-established school with a rich history.

  • Knowledge of educational institutions a plus

  • 5+ years of experience desired
