The Director of Content and Digital Library Systems will provide vision and leadership for library digital infrastructure, workflows, policy and services to support expanding modes of research, teaching and scholarly communication. The Director will develop effective partnerships with the Information Technology Services staff to create and sustain system integration and infrastructure. The Director is responsible for establishing processes and support structures that ensure the library can select, acquire, preserve and provide access to the full spectrum of research materials.  The Director leads library faculty and staff to develop and sustain the library services platform (Summon over Alma), and content, which includes acquisitions, collection management, cataloging, metadata, discovery, serials, electronic resources, digitization, physical processing and preservation of research in all formats. The Director oversees workflows and engages with new technologies and enhancement opportunities in response to user needs and priorities of the Schaffer Library. In fulfilling the Library’s responsibility as the intellectual and informational hub of the College, the Director will seek to partner with the College community to provide support for digital scholarship including grant writing and project management. The Director will provide leadership in actively engaging and seeking input from the campus community in order to develop the collection and improve discovery. The Director is responsible for managing, supporting and developing diverse library faculty and staff. The Director will serve on the library’s Library Planning Team to work collaboratively to advise the College Librarian on strategy, budgets, and program development. As a member of the library faculty, the Director is also expected to pursue a focused program of professional development, scholarly activity and college service.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited program with a minimum of seven years' experience in academic library management with a focus on technical services or systems. An equivalent combination of degree and experience will be considered.
  • Experience with emerging digital technologies and an understanding of how technology has and continues to transform academic libraries, scholarship and teaching.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, project planning and management, implementing and assessing programs and services.
  • A successful record of progressively responsible experience in employee development, change management and team building, including a demonstrated commitment to building and supporting diverse and inclusive employees.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current principles, practices and standards of collections, technical services and systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn, experiment, and advance skill sets to meet challenges associated with emerging technologies.
  • Experience with grant writing and project management.
