Director of Educational Technology
General Summary: The Director of Educational Technology will lead the strategic vision, development, and implementation of innovative technology-based educational practices at University School of Milwaukee. This position will serve as a key leader in shaping the use of technology across all academic disciplines and co-curricular programs, ensuring that USM remains at the forefront of educational innovation and fosters a transformative learning environment for both students and faculty.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead Innovation Vision & Strategy:
Inspire and equip faculty to develop a forward-thinking vision for integrating technology and innovation in an ever-evolving educational landscape, including coding, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and other emerging technologies. Provide strategic guidance for using these tools across the curriculum and grade levels to enhance learning outcomes.
- Leadership Team Participation:
Serve as an active member of the school’s leadership team, contributing to strategic planning, decision-making, and initiatives that further the mission of the school.
- Curriculum Development & Pedagogical Leadership:
Work closely with division heads and the assistant head of school to support curriculum development that leverages technology for creative and engaging pedagogy. Encourage cross-disciplinary collaboration in integrating digital tools and resources.
- Professional Development & Faculty Training:
Plan and lead ongoing professional development opportunities for faculty and staff, focusing on best practices for integrating technology into their teaching. Develop a supportive environment for continuous learning and skill-building related to educational technologies.
- Supervision of Innovation Labs & Robotics Personnel:
Supervise and provide leadership for the innovation lab directors, robotics mentors, and other adults responsible for technology-based extracurricular offerings. Ensure these programs align with the school’s educational goals and foster creativity, problem-solving, and technical skills among students.
- Robotics Coaching:
Actively participate as a coach and mentor in the school’s robotics program, guiding students through competitive challenges and promoting hands-on learning experiences in STEM fields.
- Foster Community Engagement:
Build partnerships with other educational institutions, organizations, and tech companies to bring additional resources, expertise, and opportunities to USM’s community. Represent USM at conferences, workshops, and events related to educational technology.

Stay Current with Emerging Trends:
Continuously monitor trends and advancements in educational technology, artificial intelligence, and innovation in teaching and learning. Make recommendations to keep USM ahead of the curve in adopting new technologies that enhance academic excellence.

Ensure Accessibility & Inclusivity:
Champion the use of technology to create inclusive learning environments. Advocate for tools and solutions that support diverse learning needs, including students with disabilities or other learning challenges.

Education and Experience:

Master’s degree in Educational Technology, Instructional Design, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field.

Significant experience (5+ years) in an educational leadership role, with a focus on integrating technology into teaching and learning.

Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMSs), instructional design, and online education platforms.

Experience in a K-12 independent school environment.

Background in STEM education, including robotics, coding, or engineering programs.

Previous experience working effectively with culturally and socioeconomically diverse populations, preferred.
