The Director of Enterprise Information within Library and Information Technology provides strategic vision, leadership, prioritization, and operational management to facilitate the college’s effective use of its enterprise-wide information assets. Responsibilities include stewardship of the college’s core databases, applications, and systems serving the business functions of the college, as well as addressing the growing need to aggregate data and store it in ways appropriate for future analysis and use.  In this work, the Director is also expected to be a major partner with and facilitator of new data governance efforts at Ursinus.

The Director also serves as the primary custodian of the collaborative working relationship between LIT and the college units whose programs rely heavily on those systems and information. In addition, the Director serves as the primary contact with the many external vendors who provide systems, software, and services within the college’s enterprise-wide information environment.  The ultimate outcome of the Director’s work will be found in the efficiency of processes that can be built on these systems, the level of seamless integration provided between and among systems, the implementation of new data stores (such as a data warehouse) to improve access to data, the quality of analysis enabled by access to information, and the level of skills that the campus builds in order to use these assets effectively.

The Director collaborates closely with the Director of Systems and Emerging Technologies to develop standards and directions for the college’s systems/applications and their underlying technologies; within that context, the Director of Enterprise Information is the primary architect and manager of the suite of enterprise applications (both acquired from commercial partners and developed internally), regularly assesses their quality and fit to evolving college needs, and works to ensure that they can support state-of-the-art digital interactions and transactions.

The Director manages a team of analysts and programmers to ensure that the systems are robust, reliable, cost-effective, feature-rich, and managed efficiently, while also appropriately serving the community they are intended to reach. The Director actively participates in developing a set of skills, services, and resources within his/her team to help support a culture of process improvement and reliance on data-driven decision-making across campus.

Serving on the LIT Leadership Team and the IT Leadership Team, the Director of Enterprise Information works with the CIO, fellow directors and managers, and with all colleagues in the department to realize the mission and vision of the organization. The Director facilitates open and active communication among staff and fosters effective collaboration across campus. He/she contributes to overall LIT strategic and tactical planning, policy development, service assessment, program assessment, and resource management. He/she actively researches emerging administrative technologies, business practices, and educational approaches that could benefit Ursinus.

The Director demonstrates leadership in and commitment to the concepts and practices of a “learning organization,” promoting the LIT organization as one that is central to the mission of the college. Similarly, the Director provides leadership and advocacy in helping the organization maintain its primary focus on student and faculty needs.
