Director, Hardware Services
Reporting to the Executive Director, IT Infrastructure Services (ITIS) the Director, Hardware Services will provide leadership and vision to create, implement, and manage the architecture and support mechanisms for Purdue’s hardware and related infrastructure systems, including Research Systems, UNIX, Windows, Virtualization, Data Centers and Storage systems within ITIS. The Director will oversee and assure the success of projects to repeatedly produce substantial improvements in customer service, availability, resilience, scalability, security, and cost-effectiveness. Research and explore new technology, coordinate expansion and continuous improvement of the enterprise-computing environment and provide recommendations for major purchases. The Director will work closely with business application owners, technical leaders throughout Purdue, directors in ITaP, and hardware and software vendors. Collaborate with ITaP and University staff to address hardware and infrastructure needs. Provide overall leadership and direction for assigned staff.
Required:
- Bachelor's degree.
- Seven years' of progressively responsible experience in an IT environment.
- In lieu of degree, consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required work experience.
- Five years of experience at the management level.
- Experience in IT project planning and operational management required.
- Experience with evaluation, selection, adoption and management of hardware and operating system technologies and related infrastructures.
- Experience managing technical employees.
- Ability to articulate a long-term vision, operate on a strategic level.
- Ability to facilitate resolution of technical and business issues and develop appropriate solutions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, collaboration and team building skills.
- Ability to effectively work with people at all levels and influence an organization.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities with deadlines, respond quickly to changing situations, and work well under pressure while maintaining individual and team effectiveness.
- Ability to gather requirements and apply analytical and time management skills.
- Broad understanding of enterprise information technology and related hardware, software, and technology management practices.
- Knowledge of infrastructure systems architecture and administration.
- A valid US or Canadian driver's license.
- Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, computer science, information technology or related field.
- Management, supervisory, and/or team leadership experience in a higher education computing environment.
- Knowledge of project and process management, business continuation and recovery principles, networking and security, system or application virtualization, mass data storage, or application level interdependencies of multi-tiered systems (such as database, web, authentication, and messaging infrastructure).
- A background check will be required for employment in this position.
- FLSA: Exempt (Not Eligible For Overtime)
