Job Description: 

The Director of Information Technology provides leadership, planning, managerial, and operational oversight for all Information Technology (IT) department functions, services, information systems, IT hardware and software, initiatives, and personnel. As the IT department lead, the director is responsible for the administration of day-to-day IT operations, continual service improvement, budgeting, financial planning, cost control, vendor relations, and personnel management. The director is responsible for significant high-level technical services including user support, application development, network and systems configuration, systems deployment and management, and classroom technology. The director partners with other staff and faculty at all levels of the institution and leads a team of IT professionals to deliver effective IT services based on industry best practices to students, faculty, and staff in support of teaching, student learning, administrative processes, research, outreach, etc.

Job Functions:

  • In coordination with the CIO, serves as the IT department lead by aligning IT department operational and strategic activities with institutional priorities. Implements and executes strategic direction for all technology initiatives of the college. 
  • Provides coordination, operation, and day-to-day management and leadership of the Information Technology department and the services it provides, in support of the College's mission. 
  • Explores and assesses new and emerging technologies that will provide a technology rich environment that meets the needs of today's diverse campus and student population. 
  • In collaboration with the ISO, develops, proposes, implements and maintains effective policies and practices for all information technologies; ensuring access, security, and usage are in accordance with college policies, applicable laws and best practices. 
  • Maintains effective working relationships with academic and administrative personnel across the institution. 
  • Works as an adaptive leader with skills to supervise and manage IT personnel, budgets, equipment, and facilities effectively, efficiently and strategically. 
  • Responsible for effective fiscal management of all IT budgets, encompassing budget preparation and expense control. 
  • Negotiates systems and component acquisitions, end-user service level agreements, and vendor service level agreements. 
  • Ensures the continuous delivery of IT services through the oversight of service level agreements with vendors and monitoring of IT systems performance to ensure the continuous functioning of mission critical operations. 
  • Plans, designs, purchases, implements, maintains and supports (directly or indirectly): 
    • All information systems and services 
    • All wired, wireless and voice networks and network services for the College campus and its outlying properties. 
    • All classroom audio-visual systems. 
    • All computer systems and devices owned by the institution. 
  • Provides prioritized technical support and training resources as appropriate. 
  • Ensures assessment of quality and effectiveness of IT systems, services, and personnel in coordination with supervisor and institutional assessment and effectiveness efforts. 
  • Recruits, supervises, and evaluates IT department staff and work-study personnel. Creates staffing plans, provides regular evaluation, and manages in alignment with college policies; leads and supports growth and professional development of IT department employees. 

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, technology, or related field from an accredited US Dept of Education or an internationally recognized institution. 
  • Significant progressively responsible information technology administrative and supervisory experience. 
  • Demonstrated successful management and leadership experience with the ability to lead a team of IT professionals in a professional service provider environment. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with LITS staff and campus stakeholders of all levels of technical ability. 
  • Expertise in leading complex technology projects, including business process re-engineering, and application integration in a hybrid (on premise and cloud) environment. 
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including strong relationship skills. 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Advanced degree from an accredited US Dept of Education or an internationally recognized institution and/or certification(s). 
  • Knowledgeable in the operational areas of higher education administration. 
  • Enthusiastic and results driven leader, manager, and change agent. 
  • Creative, innovative thinker embracing collaboration and partnership in developing solutions.
