Founded in 1974 and conveniently located in suburban Montreal, West Island College (WIC) is two schools under the same roof: a French school, offering an entirely French curriculum and an English School, offering a French immersion program. Director of Innovation in Teaching and Learning

Job description:

The Director of Innovation in Teaching and Learning reports to the Headmaster and works closely with the leadership team in order to further the school’s mission, vision and strategic initiatives in an effort to improve the quality of teaching and learning for faculty and students across the College and for leading the technology and learning programs.

General Responsibilities

  • Lead innovation in the area of technology-enhanced pedagogy in teaching and learning.
  • Mobilize the community and provide strategic leadership in fostering the institutional culture and capacity for innovation.
  • Assist in the development of strategies to enhance learning experiences across online, blended, and technology-enhanced initiatives.
  • Provide consultation for individual faculty members and departments to advance innovative learning initiatives that are student-focused.
  • Develop, demonstrate and implement best practice models to ensure the College remains a leader in the integration of technology to support and enhance teaching and learning.
  • Provide school-wide leadership in regard to the use of emerging technologies to enhance and extend teaching and learning experiences, as well as to achieve excellence.
  • Support academic program development, review and renewal in concert with the College’s strategic plan and in collaboration with the faculty and the Director of Studies.
  • Conduct and disseminate research and analysis on instructional design theories and approaches and new and emerging technologies.
  • Develop and implement a plan for technology integration to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Help design new tools, templates, and resources that support school innovation.
  • Participate in the recruitment and selection of new faculty members.
  • Oversee the professional development offerings for faculty members.
  • Oversee the professional growth plans of all faculty members.
  • Supervise the IT department, as well as create and manage the IT budget.
  • Assume other duties and projects to be determined.

Required qualifications:

  • A valid Quebec teaching permit.
  • Minimum 10 years of teaching experience at the high school level.
  • A Master’s degree in an appropriate field of study is preferred.
  • Previous administrative experience is an asset.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated initiative, independent judgment, diplomacy, and service-oriented attitude.
  • Demonstrated ability to innovate in pedagogical, curricular and technological areas.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and implementing change.
  • Pedagogical knowledge of online and hybrid teaching.
  • Technological literacy across a range of applications.
  • Demonstrated understanding of effective teaching practices which improve the learning outcomes for students.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with staff, students, parents, and the community.
  • Excellent written and oral skills in French and English.
  • Demonstrated experience working across learning management systems.
  • Ability to work effectively under time constraints and conflicting demands.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams to establish goals, objectives, and action plans.
