Advertised Summary Job Description	The Director of Instructional Design will oversee the design and development of a portfolio of face-to-face (f2f), online and blended curricula for a growing suite of rigorous programs offered across a variety of disciplines and audiences at the School of Professional Studies. The Director of Instructional Design will collaborate closely with Academic Directors and senior leadership at the school in new program development, curricular renovation, faculty development and the design of f2f, hybrid, and online courses. S/he will identify the pedagogical best practices and supporting educational technologies needed to effectively execute curricular mission, and work with faculty to articulate the goals, assessments, activity paths, learning objects and content for each new course. S/he will also oversee the work of assigned Instructional Designers and Course Developers to ensure the production of courses that are both aligned with programmatic outcomes and established design values for online programming. This position will oversee end-to-end development of designated programming areas. CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Curricular and Instructional Design Works with Academic Directors, faculty, and other online team members to: -Manage the course development calendar and assign instructional designers and course developers to course and project design initiatives. -Support the Executive Director for Curriculum and Instruction in the development of curricular models for f2f, hybrid, and online delivery. -Partner with faculty to identify course outcomes and clearly articulate course objectives, requirements and assessment criteria. -Identify instructional approach(es) appropriate for targeted course outcomes and requirements. -Identify an instructional content mix that is appropriate for pedagogical aims and that fully leverages affordances of the online/blended context. -Identify educational technologies (native to the SPS platform or ancillary) to support approach and content mix. -Develop the course map or activity path (the course "design theory"). -Deliver the course syllabus, schedule and instructional design "blueprint" Course Development and Project Oversight -Oversees designated curriculum and course development projects and ensures the timely and successful launch of high quality programming. -Ensures that the work of Instructional Designers and Course Developers maintains the integrity of the initial design blueprints, the design values of the school, and the established timelines for the project. -Ensures strategic communications with internal and external stakeholders on curriculum and course development projects. -Oversees the team's course authentication phase and approves final versions for readiness to "go live". Course Assessment -Assists in envisioning the strategic assessment planning for online and hybrid course delivery. -Oversees the roll-out of the course pilot and related assessment plans. -Assists faculty in considering and implementing in-flight changes to pilot version courses. -Reviews course analytics on a regular cycle to assess course design theories as they play out over time, to identify creative solutions for course improvements, and to recommend need for revision (re-entry into the development cycle). Faculty Development, Scholarship, and Service Works with Academic Directors, faculty, and senior leadership to: -Identify opportunities to improve faculty preparedness for f2f, hybrid, and online teaching -Design and execute strategic faculty training initiatives that include both self-access resources and online learning communities. -Identify and execute applied research projects that inform ongoing design and administrative practice. -Consults with stakeholder groups across the school
Minimum Qualifications for Grade Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant	-A minimum of five years of related experience is required. -Bachelors degree is required. -Demonstrated knowledge of instructional design and educational technology best practice in the context of higher ed online and/or blended programming. -Demonstrated experience developing team-based, collaborative and/or project-based courses and curricula -Demonstrated experience developing online and/or blended programming that creatively leverages new-technologies.
