Are you passionate about building collaborative partnerships between IT and its constituents? Does the idea of leading all facets of user engagement – from communication to customer experience, digital dexterity initiatives to service strategy (and more!) – excite you? If so, Davidson’s Technology & Innovation (T&I) division is looking for a new Director of IT Outreach & Engagement. Come join us!

What You'll Do

The Director of IT Outreach & Engagement is responsible for fostering collaborative and productive partnerships between T&I and Davidson students, faculty, and staff. In this role, you will consider what both T&I and our constituents need to advance digital dexterity and empowered digital citizenship, ensure the strategic application of technology across the college, and help move the college toward a modern digital workplace.

The Director oversees a team of professionals who manage departmental and end-user relationships, providing project management, business analysis, instructional design, relationship management, and communications. This is a relatively new team for T&I, and as its director you’ll play a key role in helping to shape its work—thinking about how to best engage faculty, staff and students, deliver successful projects, design meaningful communications, architect an outstanding T&I user experience, advance employee digital dexterity, build a right-sized product/service portfolio, ensure transparency around T&I outcomes, and more. This is a highly visible and extremely collaborative role—you’ll work with a diverse range of constituents across T&I and the college to empower technology users and champion positive T&I-constituent relationships.

Davidson T&I has been undergoing a transformation, so you’ll have a tremendous opportunity in this role to help shape our ‘next generation’ technology organization. As a member of the T&I leadership team, we’ll expect you to help lead the department in realizing its mission to “drive digital transformation that advances Davidson’s primary purpose*” and promoting a culture of collaboration, transparency, empathy, innovation, and accountability.

* Davidson’s primary purpose is to “to assist students in developing humane instincts and disciplined and creative minds for lives of leadership and service.”

Join Us!

Want to help Davidson’s Technology & Innovation team take outreach and engagement to the next level? We look forward to hearing from you! We hope that you’ll bring the following experience to the role:

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least ten years relevant experience working at the intersection of technology and its users

  • Collaborative and results-oriented leadership style, with a passion for mentoring staff and building teams

  • Demonstrated experience with one or more of the following: project management, client relations/relationship management, service management, business analysis, partnership development, customer experience, and/or communications; preferably in a technology-related environment

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts and information to non-technical audiences in a compelling and empowering way

  • Ability to build effective relationships and strong commitment to working collegially and collaboratively with constituents at all levels in an inclusive and diverse environment

We know that no one can have it all, but if you do have one or more of these additional certifications, experiences, and/or skills…that would be amazing! If not, that’s okay too – you’re great just the way you are.

  • MBA or an advanced degree

  • Experience working in higher education

  • Professional project management and/or IT certification, such as PMP, Scrum, ITIL, Six Sigma, lean startup, etc.

  • Experience with design-thinking and other user-centered design techniques

  • Ability to think strategically about the application of technology to solve business problems, assess technologies and standards to determine best fit, and develop user/functional/business-driven technology strategies and plans

  • Commitment to continuous assessment and improvement with experience identifying, establishing, and reporting on key performance metrics

  • Experience working with CRM and/or project portfolio management software

  • Experience working with one or more higher education administrative software solutions, such as Banner, Blackbaud CRM, Slate, PageUp, or similar
