Director of Strategic Technology
Description: 12-month, Full-Time, Exempt
The Cambridge School of Weston (CSW) seeks a director of strategic technology to lead all aspects of the school’s technology program. The school is in the early stages of a three-year strategic plan, with a focus on investing in access to changing tools and training to ensure students’ learning, utilizing data to support decision making, and developing process-oriented practices and performance metrics. CSW is committed to developing partnerships to incubate and innovate on emerging technologies.
The director provides strategic leadership on information technology, facilitates technology projects, and manages department operations to ensure the timely delivery of robust and reliable technology resources. Reporting to the assistant head of school, the director of technology will be a key member of the staff with regards to new program development, and will actively support teachers and students in creating a strong progressive school setting where digital tools and media are used effectively, responsibly and creatively.
Specific responsibilities for this position include:
Leadership

Provide leadership for the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of school-wide information technology systems—draft plans, protocols, policies, timelines, schedules, and workflows—and evaluate their success.

Provide vision and leadership to ensure the academic program is supported by forward-thinking educational technology.

Work with stakeholders to implement components of the strategic plan that relate to technology.
- Work with the CFO to manage the operating budget for the department, with a focus on cost effectiveness and careful evaluation of return on investment. Forecast budgetary needs with an eye to capital investments and operating expenses.
Technical Expertise

Possess strong technical expertise and a deep understanding of hardware and networking.

Oversee the management of the school’s outsourced network, infrastructure, databases and telecommunications systems.

Stay current with emerging technologies, software and hardware solutions and propose learning strategies using new technology. Stay abreast of major information technology initiatives across peer schools, leapfrogging whenever they may further the school’s mission.
- Remain current on technology advancements, emerging standards and regulations, and industry trends relevant to the school’s ongoing success. Consider models and learning from industries outside K-12 to ensure our ability to deliver the very best program and communications.
Supporting Faculty and Staff
- Partner with different administrative offices (admissions, marketing and communications, development, business office) to provide efficient workflows for school operations and help enhance the school’s web presence and communications.

Collaborate with director of library and technology integration, as well as department heads, to formalize professional development training for faculty and staff.
- Aid the administration in seeking out and developing partnerships with organizations to incubate and innovate on emerging technology that continues to support our academic program and advance the school’s mission.
Skills and Qualifications:

Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in related field; Master’s degree preferred.

Minimum of 5 years experience in an academic environment or related field.

Demonstrated expertise in both PC and Mac platforms

Understanding of databases and networks

Previous experience in the development and implementation of large-scale projects that support strategic goals

Experience with leading and managing staff

Comfort with participating in and leading process

Sees technology and digital media as tools available to all and in particular focuses on bringing traditionally underrepresented young people into these areas
- Understanding of the nature of human learning and the multiple literacies of diverse learners and contexts; ability to translate that understanding toward technologies to support the learning, the design of digital learning environments, and a framework for aiding students in adapting and manipulating those digital environments
The director of strategic technology will take on other duties as may be assigned by the head of school and must be willing to work evenings and occasional weekends to fulfill responsibilities.
